Job Summary

The Facilities Planning Department oversees campus design, planning, and construction. This Project Manager supervises staff, plans projects, estimates costs, and coordinates new construction, renovation, and repair projects to maintain facilities that support the university’s mission. The role requires strong supervisory, project‑management, communication, and public‑relations skills to interact with faculty, staff, students, and the public.

Responsibilities
  • Manage designers and contractors on Facilities Planning projects.
  • Study and evaluate alteration, repair, and construction plans, designs, and specifications, estimating labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Determine material, equipment, and labor costs using online sources, catalogs, vendor contacts, previous project records, and national averages.
  • Establish supervision, office, inspection, and other overhead costs based on project timing.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed to protect students, faculty, staff, and workers.
  • Visit projects frequently to verify plans, quality, safety, and productivity.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, reporting on each budget to superiors and project teams.
  • Perform other duties as necessary or assigned.
  • Supervise the work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling, reviewing, ensuring quality, training staff, and overseeing productivity.
  • Participate in the selection of architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors for assigned projects.
  • Discuss issues or project status updates with superiors, Board of Regents staff, or other agencies.
  • Coordinate various trades when acting as the overall project manager.
  • Coordinate with managers to schedule project completions.
  • Write project specifications for bid documents if required.
  • Receive work assignments verbally or in writing.
  • Prepare reports covering estimated costs, project scheduling, and submit for superior approval.
  • Study plans and specifications, confer with division, designers, and superiors to adjust discrepancies and clarify details.
  • Prepare punch‑list inspection reports covering all outstanding items and code compliance.
  • Maintain progress reports on punch list items through completion with contractors.
  • Coordinate and maintain project budgets and reporting on a per‑project basis.
  • Review and detail invoices, material on‐hand requests, and change orders.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction or a related field plus 2‑4 years of experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Training in Construction, Design, Engineering, Interior Design, Landscape Design, or related fields.
  • Experience in architectural designing, cost estimating, and building construction.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture design, engineering, or related field.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience with major capital projects.
  • Project Management Certification.
Proposed Salary

Pay grade 10. Salary range: $60,868.00 – $91,358.00, based on relevant years of experience.
