The College of Arts & Sciences seeks a Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses in Spanish language and culture. This non-tenure track faculty position, based in the Department of World Languages & Cultures, is a 10-month academic year position.

Teaching
: this position involves teaching fifteen credit-hours per semester of culture-rich and proficiency-driven Spanish language courses, primarily at the introductory and intermediate levels. As needed, the candidate may also teach topics-based freshman (GC1Y) and sophomore (GC2Y) courses taught in English. All faculty in the department share the responsibility of teaching core curriculum courses and introductory- and intermediate-level language courses.

Professional development
: all faculty members are expected to develop within the profession. While publications are welcome, lecturers are not required to publish. Encouraged activities include attending workshops and conferences, presenting at professional meetings, applying for grants, participating in professional organizations, and engaging in scholarly inquiry that informs classroom instruction.

Service
: all faculty members contribute service to the institution: recruiting majors and minors, mentoring students, attending and encouraging students to attend co-curricular activities organized by the department, engaging in committee work, advising a student organization like the Spanish Club, developing a study abroad program, or participating in special programs or projects.

D. in Spanish or a related field.

Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (faculty credentials): the completion of a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Spanish.

Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English, and an interest in teaching and mentoring in a public liberal arts context. Strong training in L2 methodology, superior language teaching skills in a proficiency-based environment, and a dedication to methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies.

Preferred
: experience or interest in developing topics-based courses taught in English for freshmen (GC1Y) or sophomores (GC2Y); interest in teaching (and SACSCOC qualifications to teach) another second language beyond Spanish, that is, the completion of a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the language to be taught.
