The Simulation Technology Operations Specialist provides operational leadership, strategic oversight, and direct supervisory management for the technology operations of the Simulation and Translational Research Center (STRC) and the Skills Acquisition Lab (SAL). This role plans and directs all simulation technology activities, supervises Simulation Technician staff, and ensures the center’s technology infrastructure supports the academic mission of the School of Nursing and the College of Health Sciences.

The position serves as the primary technical authority for simulation systems, leads technology planning and budget processes, and collaborates with simulation faculty, college administration, and the GCSU IT Department. It requires advanced technical expertise in healthcare simulation, supervisory ability, and a strategic orientation toward continuous improvement and innovation in simulation education.

• Technical Operations, Quality Assurance & Other – 35%
• Maintain personal proficiency in simulation technology operations; serve as a working supervisor during high-demand periods, staff absences, or complex simulation events.
• Oversee and audit technician team maintenance logs, repair records, equipment inventories, and incident reports for completeness and accuracy.
• Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program for all simulation equipment, ensuring uptime standards are met and documented.
• Establish quality assurance checkpoints for simulation setup, operation, and teardown procedures; conduct periodic reviews and provide corrective feedback.
• Oversee data security and cybersecurity compliance for all simulation technology systems in coordination with the GCSU IT Department.
• Ensure all simulation technology operations comply with applicable FERPA, HIPAA-adjacent training requirements, and institutional data governance policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of the Simulation Center.
• Supervision & Work Distribution – 10%
• Directly supervise Simulation Technician(s) and simulation technology student workers, including hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluation, in accordance with USG and GCSU HR policies.
• Distribute and assign daily, weekly, and semester-based work tasks across the technician team based on simulation schedule demands, skill sets, and operational priorities.
• Monitor and evaluate staff workload balance; adjust assignments proactively to prevent bottlenecks or coverage gaps.
• Conduct regular one-on-one check-ins and team meetings to communicate priorities, address challenges, and maintain alignment with center goals.
• Identify staff training and development needs; create individual development plans and facilitate access to relevant professional development opportunities.
• Document and maintain accurate records of staff schedules, assignments, performance notes, and leave in coordination with the Simulation Director.
• Serve as escalation point for complex technical problems that exceed the Simulation Technician's scope or require supervisory decision-making.
• Budget Management & Vendor Relations – 20%
• Develop and submit the annual simulation technology budget in collaboration with the Simulation Director, including capital equipment requests, software licensing, maintenance contracts, and technology-related supply needs.
• Monitor technology expenditures throughout the fiscal year; track spending against budget and prepare variance reports as needed.
• Manage vendor and manufacturer relationships, including contract negotiations, SLAs, warranty management, and purchase orders.
• Solicit and evaluate competitive quotes for equipment, installation projects, and maintenance services; make procurement recommendations based on cost, quality, and institutional fit.
• Ensure compliance with USG and GCSU procurement policies for all technology purchases.
