Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and participate in a variety of skilled and semi-skilled activities in the planning, estimating, and scheduling work installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures and systems.
Ensure compliance with building, health and safety laws, codes, regulations, and standards applicable to the plumbing trade.
Supervise, train, and provide work direction and guidance to assigned personnel; assign employee duties, inspect, and evaluate work for quality and safety; review work for accuracy, completeness and compliance with established standards and procedures; oversee operation and scheduling of the plumbing shop.
Work on systems including but not limited to domestic water, heating/chilled water, fire protection, waste, stormwater, air, vent, steam, and gas infrastructure/piping. Work on hot water heaters, boilers, heat exchangers, grease traps, oil water separators, sump pumps, lint interceptors, and other equipment.
Manage the water production, treatment, storage, and distribution of potable water for the campus.
Develop and implement plumbing installation, maintenance, repair, and enhancement projects; estimate labor, material, and equipment requirements for projects; monitor, assess and modify activities in response to project progress.
Mange the repair, maintenance, and replacement of kitchen equipment.
Coordinate contracted welding services and maintenance plumbing work; inspect contract work; and authorize payments.
Coordinate work and communicate progress with building occupants and others as needed.
Maintain accurate and complete documentation to include labor time, materials, equipment, and contract support for completed work in department's work order system.
Exercise independent judgment in the performance of their trade and work from oral or written instructions, sketches, and blueprints; make sound decisions for minor projects that have no detailed drawings or conflicting information; trouble shoot systems/components to identify issue and resolve issue.
Manage the annual operating budget; forecast major expenses and recapitalization of equipment; and restock materials and equipment.
