Summary

This position is located at the Golf and Outdoor Recreation Division, part of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department at Naval Support Activity Mid‑South, Millington, TN. The incumbent reports directly to the Recreational Lodging Director and supports operations of the Recreational Lodging Facility.

Responsibilities
  • Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and materials to and from trucks, dollies, etc.
  • Moves heavy objects by hand or with mechanical assistance as directed.
  • Opens crates and boxes using crowbars and shears.
  • Stacks boxes and cartons or other materials as directed.
  • Uses a shovel to dig ditches where grading is not required.
  • Fills holes with dirt and levels bumps and low places using shovel, hand tamper, and rake.
  • Runs hand and powered lawnmowers that do not require heavy physical effort.
  • Clears small trees and brush using hatchet, handsaw, or clipper.
  • Moves and arranges furniture as directed.
  • May shovel snow, sand, or dirt from sidewalks; collects and empties garbage cans.
  • Washes and waxes cars and trucks by hand or using a powered buffer.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must pass the E‑verify employment verification check.
  • Must have salary transferred via Direct Deposit/E‑Funds Transfer.
  • Must complete a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process with two forms of  the Form I‑9.
  • Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must meet federal employment suitability requirements and successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including special command events.
  • Required to lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Must work outdoors in extreme temperatures, drafts, noise, dust, dirt, and stand on concrete floors for long periods.
Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties described above. All prior government positions must include pay plan, series, grade, dates, and agency address; all non‑government positions must include complete address and dates.

  • Knowledge of safe and efficient operating techniques of various large equipment and power tools (posthole diggers, blowers, weed eaters, power washers, mowers, box trucks with lift gate, etc.).
  • Ability to operate and control riding mowers on slopes.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment around buildings, walls, trees, fence lines, banks, hillsides, trenches, curbs, rocks, and other obstacles.
  • Ability to operate lever controls to maneuver equipment and manage attachments.
  • Knowledge and skill in using hand tools (shovels, rakes, hammers, bars, saws, axes, loppers, wrenches, brushes, broom, ladders, banding equipment, pallet jacks).
  • Ability to complete assignments involving several tasks while following detailed instructions or simple drawings.
  • Ability to follow general instructions and read simple drawings for manual tasks.
