Job DescriptionWe are currently seeking a detail-oriented, adaptable, responsive individual to work in an NCDOT Resident Engineer's Office in the greater Mills River area as an Office Administrative Assistant / NCDOT CEI Inspector. This position will support field technicians and engineers to ensure HiCAMS-related functions are in compliance with contract agreements, standards, and specifications. This position requires the performance of a wide variety of standardized and non-standardized assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing data.
Work involves decision making and the use of construction-based judgment. Employee must perform a full range of calculations and computations and be proficient in record keeping and bookkeeping. Additional duties may include duties such as reviewing contractor’s certified payrolls for FHWA compliance and scheduling, DBE and EEO compliance, maintaining technician certifications, maintaining construction project budgets, reviewing CEI invoices, checking calculations, researching project documents, and performing construction project closeout documentation.
Work may include other office duties and responsibilities as assigned.
As a NCDOT CEI Technician, you will be assigned to one or more active construction sites and be responsible for verifying the quality and compliance of project activities in accordance with North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) standards and specifications. You will have the opportunity to advance your skillset through on-the-job training as well as attendance at certification.
- Experience with contract administration and bookkeeping
- Knowledge in understanding contracts, plans, standards and specifications
- Working knowledge of computer equipment (iPads, desktop), software (HiCams and SharePoint), and mathematical functions
- Experience in maintaining neat, legible and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry
- Ability to present information clearly and concisely in oral and written form
- Ability to establish positive lines of communication between technicians and engineers
- Ability to manage/ maintain multiple projects/deadlines
- Knowledge of highway construction and materials testing
Duties will include but may not be limited to:
- Conduct on-site inspections of construction activities, including roadways, bridges, utilities, erosion control, and other infrastructure components, to verify compliance with construction drawings and NCDOT standards and specifications.
- Identify and report any discrepancies, defects, or non-compliance issues.
- Utilizing a company-provided iPad, maintain detailed daily records of construction activities.
- Generate clear and concise inspection reports and other pertinent documentation, including test reports, material received reports, and pay estimates.
- Maintain detailed records of onsite activities to aid in the development of as-built plans.
- Perform materials testing on soil, asphalt, and concrete.
