High Needs Position Sign-on Bonus: Christina School District is offering a hiring and retention bonus of $3,500, paid in two installments. The candidate must be fully certified in their content area. These payments are subject to mandatory with holdings.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in American Sign Language
- Degree in Deaf Education required (Master's Degree Preferred)
- Must hold or be eligible for State of Delaware certification in Teacher of Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Must hold or be eligible for State of Delaware Certification in a secondary content area
- Experience with best practices with instruction of deaf/hard of hearing children, placed in the general education setting, who also have autism spectrum disorders, deaf-blindness, and/or cognitive delay
- Experience utilizing a variety of communication approaches, including auditory verbal therapy, troubleshooting hearing assistive technology, and interpreting audio logical information
- Must be able to stand and work continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per workday.
- Minimum lifting requirements- 50 pounds (with assistance).
- Must be able to use arms and hands without restrictions to accommodate the physical, mobility, and ambulatory needs of students

Position Description and ResponsibilitiesServe as primary support and resource for the inclusion of students with multiple disabilities, including collaborative planning and implementation of individualized education programs. Additional teacher responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:
- Supporting professional development and providing instructional staff and families as needed, regarding the compound impact of hearing loss and additional conditions/disabilities on students' learning
- Directing, monitoring and reporting student progress in attaining IEP goals in conjunction with classroom staff
- Communicating with parents concerning their child's progress
- Preparation of lesson plans and appropriate instructional materials
- Collaborating in interdisciplinary teams
- Planning of community-based and transition-focused activities
- Regularly assessing student learning using standardized and teacher made assessments, work samples, portfolios
- Supervising and assuring student safety
Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior and attitude needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom and vocational environment - Attendance at team and instructional meetings as required
