Credit Bureau Dispute Specialist
Responds to incoming credit bureau disputes on one product type (Mortgage or Consumer Lending) received from the credit reporting agencies or directly from the customer, while ensuring compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Primary Responsibilities- Complete routine data entry, system updates and validation to ensure accurate credit reporting in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
- Respond to credit bureau disputes in a manner that ensures accurate credit reporting.
- Respond to or initiate standard requests in responding to credit bureau disputes received from credit reporting agencies or directly from the customer; complete appropriate mid-level complexity research to support these activities.
- Complete entry-level reconciliations as required.
- Complete routine or standardized exception processing in response to credit bureau disputes.
- Contact internal and external customers, including credit reporting agencies and other vendors, as required to respond to credit bureau disputes.
- Complete all activities in a manner compliant with applicable laws and regulations, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA) and Consumer Data Industry Association (CDIA) guidance and other applicable credit reporting and loan servicing regulations.
- Develop proficiency in use of multiple systems to support activities completed.
- Review and draft procedures as requested.
- Complete cross-training to expand responsibilities.
- May draft manual email and letter communications to customers.
- Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
- Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
This area is primarily responsible for the organization's in-bound credit bureau dispute responses received from the credit reporting agencies or directly from the customer. The area is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Education and Experience RequiredAssociate's degree, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 2 years' higher education and/or work experience
Proven customer service experience
Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent spreadsheet and word processing software
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated problem-solving skills
Education and Experience PreferredMinimum of 1 years' relevant experience
Minimum of 1 years' credit bureau or collections experience
FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) experience or knowledge
