The Manufacturing Engineer reports directly to the Engineering Manager or Lead. Support manufacturing/ production floor activities for Printed Circuit Board and Box Build assemblies. S/he is responsible for Manufacturing instruction development and implementation, and assembly line layout. Will perform data collection to drive continuous process improvement, perform root cause analysis and effective corrective actions. The Manufacturing Engineer may perform a variety of tasks in accordance with their training, experience, and skill.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Program Manager to support manufacturing and process engineering tasks for PCBAs and Box Build assemblies and help address all technical issues for the new and sustaining products.
  • Interface with customers; understand product requirements and criteria to ensure customer expectations are fully met.
  • Provide technical leadership support for BOM set up in the MRP system for PCBAs and Box Build assemblies. Decide Make/Buy items, Phantom/Make assemblies, proper unit of measures, and other BOM set up criteria. Key go-to-person for technical issues to the Document Control and Production staff.
  • Create and improve product routings, manufacturing process instructions, process set-ups, required stencils and fixtures, carrier plates, and other proper tools to obtain maximum productivity and quality levels for PCBAs and Box Build assemblies.
  • Generate Pre- and Post
    - DfA/DfM analyses and reports for the PCBAs and other assemblies utilizing Valor or similar tools on an as needed basis. Recommend engineering design changes from the manufacturing standpoint.
  • Support production floor from pilot run up to mass production, troubleshoot and correct manufacturing and process issues. Instruct, help, guide, and mentor technicians and operators in support of production floor.
  • Drive continuous process and equipment improvement, and perform corrective actions based on properly identified root cause.
  • Perform, as needed:
  • Identify and implement cost reduction strategies
  • TAKT Time Study
  • DOE (Design of Experiment)
  • Review and analyze product yield
  • Support and/or responsible to address all relevant engineering root cause analyses
  • Control Plans
  • Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA)
  • Other miscellaneous tasks as assigned

These tasks are performed in accordance with engineering instructions, company standard operating procedures, professional trainings, customer requirements, and individual experience.

Qualifications Required/Job Specifications:

  • Five (5) years of combined experience in PCBA manufacturing engineering involving the SMT process and box build assemblies preferably in a contract manufacturing environment.
  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in an field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with:
  • Product Documentation (such as BOM, drawing, work instructions, product standard)
  • Soldering Process – Printing and reflow profiling.
  • Value Stream Map
  • 8D Methodology to address issues
  • Preferred, experience with:
  • Value Stream Map
  • MTM (Method of Time Measurement)
  • Ergonomic Studies
  • Theory of Constraints
  • Ability to:
  • Use common sense to solve practical problems.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Be self-directed, dependable, and motivated with excellent relationship and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and decision making skills.
  • Perform root cause analysis and put proper corrective actions. (8D methodology)
  • Maintain courteous, professional, and effective working relationships with employees, vendors, and customers at all levels of the organization
  • Possess strong communication, coaching, listening, and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to individuals from multi-cultural backgrounds and build trusting relationships in order to gain support and achieve results at all levels within the organization
  • Experience supporting Quality Management Systems (ISO), Lean and Customer Satisfaction
  • Proficient with MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite, including intermediate to advanced knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Excel.
  • Available to work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with supervisors, customers, vendors, and any other person or organization with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and goals.
