We are currently seeking a highly qualified, self‑motivated postdoc to accelerate research towards new rack‑scale architectures, core methodologies, and technologies in computing systems with a focus on technologies at HPE Labs. HPE Labs is an international research organization headquartered in Milpitas, California, dedicated to delivering breakthrough technologies that provide a competitive advantage by investing in fundamental science and technology. The Systems Architecture research team is diverse and explores new ideas beyond traditional monolithic research.
The ideal candidate has a background in computer systems and architecture, a strong understanding of current state‑of‑the‑art, major trends, and opportunities, and a track record of making innovative contributions. The role expects researchers to provide thought leadership, influence both internally and externally, and drive ideas from concept to implementation, evaluation, and technology transfer. Candidates should thrive in applied research, balance significant technical and scientific contributions with practical solutions for customers and partners, and collaborate with HPE Labs teams and external partners.
Excellent software systems building skills are a significant plus.
- PhD degree (or other degree with significant research and innovation experience) in a relevant discipline (e.g., computer science, electrical engineering, math, physics, statistics, mechanical engineering, etc.)
- Track record of world‑class innovative contributions and ideas.
- Experience with innovative solution development, such as developing proofs‑of‑concept, first‑of‑a‑kind solutions, and/or technology transfer.
- Computer architecture
- Energy monitoring, measurement, and management
- Experience with basic data science tools in Python or R
- Experience with at least one cloud orchestration and management tool like Docker, Kubernetes, Slurm, Apache Mesos, etc.
- Experience with Python and Go
- Rapid understanding of select problems and opportunities
- Deep understanding of the relevant environment, ecosystem, trends, and literature
- Excellent research and development skills
- Ability to innovate, make research contributions, and bring ideas to reality in compelling ways
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English
- Strong track record of working independently and in teams
- Strong systems programming and software engineering skills
- Demonstrated ability to generate, frame, and carry out leadership research, as shown by papers published in top‑tier conferences or journals
- Familiarity with designing, implementing, and managing rack‑scale architectures
- Knowledge of hybrid and multi‑cloud strategies, including integration with on‑premises infrastructure
- Knowledge of implementing sustainable data center practices, including energy‑efficient technologies and cooling optimization
- Understanding of sustainability regulations, standards, and best practices as they apply to data center design and operation
- Familiarity with workload scheduling, resource allocation, and optimization in distributed computing environments
- Demonstrated ability to analyze workloads, predict resource requirements, and dynamically allocate resources to meet performance, efficiency, and sustainability goals
