Design Engineer II

Our client is seeking a hands-on Design Engineer II to join their FPD Hardware team supporting the development and qualification of next-generation hardware platforms. This role is ideal for an engineer with experience in board-level hardware design, component qualification, design validation, and hardware debugging who enjoys working in a fast-paced product development environment.

As a member of a collaborative cross-functional team, you will play a key role in bringing new hardware platforms from prototype through validation by performing component qualification, board bring-up, failure analysis, and design support activities. You'll work alongside hardware, firmware, ASIC, validation, SI/PI, mechanical, and component engineering teams to ensure reliable, high-quality hardware designs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute qualification and validation of critical hardware components including:
    • Power management ICs (PMICs)
    • DC-DC converters and LDOs
    • Temperature sensors
    • Oscillators and crystals
    • EEPROMs and supporting circuitry
  • Develop qualification plans, test procedures, and validation reports.
  • Perform electrical characterization, reliability assessments, and design validation testing.
  • Support first-board bring-up activities and debug board-level hardware issues.
  • Troubleshoot power, clocking, interfaces, signal integrity, and hardware failures.
  • Perform laboratory measurements using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, digital multimeters (DMMs), and power analyzers.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and work with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Assist with schematic capture, schematic reviews, BOM maintenance, and engineering change orders (ECOs).
  • Support component substitutions and hardware design updates.
  • Execute validation plans and document testing results, design recommendations, and engineering findings.
  • Participate in design reviews, prototype builds, technical discussions, and issue tracking.
  • Collaborate closely with Hardware Design, Validation, Firmware, ASIC, SI/PI, Mechanical, and Component Engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in hardware design, board-level development, hardware validation, or electrical engineering.
  • Experience with board bring-up, hardware debugging, and failure analysis.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Power management architectures (PMICs, DC-DC converters, LDOs)
    • Analog and digital circuit design
    • Temperature monitoring circuits
    • Oscillators and crystal implementation
  • Ability to read, interpret, and modify hardware schematics.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, and power analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with common hardware interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, SMBus, and GPIO.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) or prototype development.
  • Familiarity with design validation testing and component qualification methodologies.
  • Experience working in semiconductor, storage, embedded systems, or consumer electronics environments.
  • Exposure to SI/PI concepts, power sequencing, and hardware reliability testing.
Why Apply?
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge hardware platforms from concept through validation.
  • Collaborate with highly skilled engineering teams across multiple disciplines.
  • Gain hands-on experience with advanced board-level hardware development and debugging.
  • Long-term contract with strong potential for extension or conversion based on performance and business needs.
