Material Handler

Job Description

Material Handler III is responsible for the safe, accurate loading and unloading of product within the distribution centre. Uses ERP systems to locate and store items, properly package them, and manage movement of materials. May prepare goods for final shipment and coordinate documentation for domestic and international shipments. Handles material inbound or outbound based on business needs.

The following duties and responsibilities are representative of the work performed by the incumbent.

• Processing customer orders: scanning bar codes, picking and labeling boxes.
• Pick, pack and process orders.
• Processing orders through RF technology.
• Maintaining an acceptable work area as outlined in SOP and work instructions.
• Following Good Documentation Practices (GDP) as outlined in SOP.
• Completing all necessary RF device training to obtain the required profiles.
• Ensuring accuracy verification and shipment packaging.

• Palletizing to include scanning, retrieving and placing completed orders on pallets.
• Re-palletizing products for shipment.
• Performing dock manifest duties: scanning completed pallets and running the shrink wrapper.
• Transporting pallets by MHE.
• Handling inbound/outbound shipments using WMS.
• Ensuring pallets are loaded/unloaded in a manner that promotes safety and prevents damage.
• Completing all assigned duties in a timely manner following department procedures.
• Locating and retrieving products, replenishing picking locations.
• Maintaining an acceptable work area as outlined in SOP.
• Completing RF device training and following GDP.
• Following safety instructions to maintain safe working conditions.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
• Training and implementing functions in SAP.
• Maintaining current status in C2C training modules.
• Operating material handling equipment safely and reporting damages or maintenance issues.
• Keeping equipment neat and orderly and maintaining certification.

• Performing job activities safely and in accordance with safety requirements.
• Maintaining warehouse security and promoting a safe environment.
• Reporting injuries, accidents, unsafe acts, hazards or conditions immediately.
• Reporting suspicious persons or activity.

• Understanding organizational quality goals.

• Maintaining a clean and professional image.
• Following guidelines for facility cleanliness.
• Keeping a clean, neat, and orderly work area at all times.

• May receive Hazmat training, including general awareness, security awareness, and safety training.

• Becoming knowledgeable about other warehouse positions, assisting as required, and acting as backup.

• High School diploma, GED, or 3 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with MHE (e.g., Order Pickers, Reach Trucks, Counterbalance, Dock Stocker).
• Forklift Certification.
• Good verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced distribution environment.
• Ability to read and interpret distribution documents.
• Ability to work well with others.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision.
• Ability to operate MHE and use Voice/RF scanner.
• Ability to work in a metrics-driven environment.
• Basic analytical, organizational, and prioritization skills.
• General distribution knowledge.
• Exposure to work near moving mechanical equipment.
