Location: Based in Milton-Freewater with travel to Hermiston and Pendleton (company vehicle provided)

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm (occasional after hours emergencies)

Pay: $21 per hour or more depending on experience

About Us

Horizon Project, Inc. is seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Technician to join our Maintenance Team. HPI provides residential and employment support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and operates residential homes, affordable housing properties, commercial offices, and other facilities throughout Umatilla County. This position does not provide care to clients with disabilities but must be comfortable interacting with clients and entering their homes.

The Maintenance Technician helps keep HPI properties, facilities, equipment, and grounds safe, functional, and well maintained. This is a hands‑on position involving routine maintenance, preventative maintenance, minor repairs, grounds work, property preparation, and other assigned maintenance tasks. This job does NOT require specialized trade work such as electrical, HVAC, or plumbing work.

The ideal candidate is dependable, practical, safety‑minded, and able to work independently while knowing when to ask for assistance or refer work that requires specialized expertise.

Job Duties
  • Complete maintenance work orders, preventative maintenance, routine repairs, and property maintenance in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform common minor repairs such as replacing toilets, addressing minor sink or faucet issues, replacing hardware, patching and painting, basic carpentry, and similar maintenance tasks.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs to fixtures, equipment, and appliances within your training and experience.
  • Assist with property inspections and identify maintenance, safety, repair, replacement, grounds, and property‑condition concerns.
  • Assist with preparing residential units and other properties for occupancy or program needs.
  • Perform grounds maintenance, seasonal maintenance, snow removal, deliveries, and other routine property and facility tasks.
  • Interact with vendors and contractors for maintenance projects.
  • Respond to routine and urgent maintenance needs as assigned.
  • Document completed work and communicate delays, material needs, safety concerns, or follow‑up needs.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, supplies, and work areas in a clean, organized, safe, and serviceable condition.
  • Work professionally with HPI staff, clients, managers, renters, vendors, contractors, and members of the public.
  • Follow HPI safety procedures and use tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment appropriately.
  • Do maintenance tasks in Milton‑Freewater, Hermiston, and Pendleton (company vehicle provided)
Requirements
  • Must pass pre‑employment screenings:
    Drug test, background check (ODHS), driving records check
  • Driving record must be insurable by company auto insurance
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
Required Experience
  • 2 years of experience in construction, facilities maintenance, or related field;
  • OR successful completion of advanced vocational or technical school training in a relevant field of study
Physical Demands

Must be able to lift (using approved techniques and procedures) and move objects up to 75 pounds when necessary and may require working in various weather conditions.
