General Maintenance Assistant
We are looking to hire one (1) on‑call supply General Maintenance Assistant for the Milton Campus to provide maintenance and groundskeeping support at the Ernest
C. Drury School for the Deaf and Trillium Demonstration School.
- Provide general preventative maintenance and repairs to buildings, grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
- Perform general plumbing, electrical and facility maintenance.
- Provide general repairs to heating, ventilation, and fire systems.
- Provide general repairs to locks, valves, pumps, repair of windows, flooring, minor painting, and general touch‑up work to furniture.
- Maintain efficient mechanical operation of the swimming pool.
- Assist contract and government services tradespersons.
- Assist with implementation of work plan for summer students.
- Work on‑call hours as required.
- Demonstrated experience and general working knowledge of trades such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, HVAC systems, and electrical to assist with semi‑skilled general maintenance.
- Can determine proper methods and materials required for performing installation, replacement, repair, preventative maintenance, and construction work at the facility.
- Proven mechanical aptitude and experience performing routine general maintenance inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs of electrical, plumbing, small engines, appliances, furniture, fittings, and electromechanical systems.
- Knowledge and experience operating various grounds maintenance equipment such as skid steer loader, tractors, and riding lawn mowers.
- Proven experience and can maintain efficient operation of swimming pool and related equipment.
- Ability to use hand tools and power equipment.
- Experience maintaining work orders and preventative maintenance logs.
- Developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Organizational, time management, analytical and problem‑solving skills to manage daily operations and tasks.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply Occupational Health and Safety guidelines, such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), confined space, designated substances surveys.
- Can move and set up furniture and equipment.
- Ability to read and follow simple drawings, blueprints, work specifications, including written and verbal directions.
