Special Education Teacher

The Special Education Teacher will provide special education services and instruction to students in grades 9-12; including Math, ELA (English Language Arts), Science, and Social Studies. A strong background in math is preferred. They will write and gather data for the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and ensure that students are receiving the services required. They will participate as a member of a team and collaborate with other staff to meet the unique needs of all of the students.

In addition, they will correspond with families to ensure a strong home-school connection.

Essential duties and responsibilities include selecting instructional goals aligned with the Delaware content standards and the district or charter school's curricula, planning for learning activities that support student learning, showing knowledge of content and how to teach it to a variety of learners, creating and/or selecting assessments that are congruent with instructional goals, establishing behavioral expectations and consequences, creating an atmosphere in which learning is valued, organizing, allocating, and managing physical space to create a safe learning environment, using physical resources to contribute to effective instruction, teaching content that is appropriate, clear, and linked to student knowledge and experience, having a repertoire of instructional strategies and making use of them to make modifications to lessons as needed, communicating both written and verbal information that is clear and appropriate to students' ages, backgrounds, and levels of understanding, making the criteria of the assessment known to the students, monitoring the students' progress, providing descriptive feedback, promoting student self-assessment, and using data to plan future instruction.
