The Patient Access Advocate plays a key role in patient interactions, ensuring a welcoming environment and accurate registration.
Responsibilities- Greet patients with a smile and answer phone calls.
- Enter patient information into the electronic health record and database.
- Perform registration functions, including updating demographics, verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, and collecting co-payments, coinsurance, and deductibles.
- Collect payment and perform visit closure activities.
- Provide way finding and assist with clerical duties (copying, scanning, faxing).
- Create and maintain patient files.
- Screen and direct phone calls, taking and forwarding messages as necessary.
- Confirm all paperwork is completed accurately.
- Maintain cleanliness of the front desk, waiting room, and children’s play area, including routine housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash and vacuuming.
- Follow HIPAA policies and company policies.
- Minimum typing speed of 50 wpm.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 6 months of experience in a healthcare setting or one year customer service background.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Patient/Client focus and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Basic understanding of medical terminology and billing codes (DRG, ICD‑10, CPT, HCPCS) preferred.
- Basic math skills and ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and with diverse individuals.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills; ability to manage conflict and seek supervisory assistance when necessary.
- Solid work history and reliability.
- Comfortable with standing, walking, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
- Non‑exempt; scheduled based on operational need.
This position includes standing, walking, use of hands, reaching, sitting, talking and listening. It may require lifting up to 10 pounds. There are no special vision requirements.
Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a healthcare setting and may routinely bring you into contact with patients who have contagious illnesses or diseases. Standard office equipment such as telephones, laptops, smartphones, photocopiers, calculators and filing cabinets are used. The environment has moderate noise exposure.
Position Type/Expected HoursNon‑exempt. Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need.
