ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Ability to respond to emergency calls including fires and fire alarms, emergency medical calls, hazardous conditions, and other emergency situations.

Ability to perform firefighting duties, perform rescue activities, provide emergency medical care, and stabilize hazardous situations.

Ability to operate and maintain firefighting equipment and tools.

Assists in the maintenance of fire apparatus and equipment.

Attends ongoing training classes and drills.

Performs fire prevention duties as assigned.

Ability to perform clean-up and salvage operations.

Must be proficient in the use of extrication equipment, including Jaws-of-Life,for extractions.

Works in areas with regular hazards, such as: fire, explosions, hazardous chemicals, fire gases, traffic, dogs, hysterical relatives, unfamiliar surrounding sand electricity.

Performs other duties, as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of methods and techniques used in the prevention and suppression offires.

Knowledge of the geography of the city and the location of important buildings,hydrants and water mains.

Knowledge of federal and state laws and local ordinances.

Knowledge of first aid and skill in its application.

Ability to deal tactfully, fairly and courteously with the public.

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

Ability to remain alert at all times and to react quickly and calmly in emergencies, to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action.

Ability to perform physical activities of strength and agility.

HOURS OF WORK, SUPERVISORY RFSPONSIBILI'IY AND ACCOUNTABILIITY REQUIREMENTS:

Shift work as assigned, including nights, weekends, and holidays; subject to emergency call-out.

No supervisory responsibilities.

Generally reports to the officer in charge.

CLASSIFICATION

SUMMARY:

This is a non-supervisory position in the protection of life and property through activities of fire suppression and fire prevention. Assigned duties are performed in accordance with city ordinances, State statutes, Federal laws and departmental rules and regulations. A supervisor regularly checks work performed and gives specific instruction as required. Work is evaluated through results by the examination of reports, personal instructions and work records.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:

High School diploma or equivalent

Current and valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator's License with E endorsement.

Valid State of Florida Firefighter Minimum Standards certification

Must meet all minimum entrance standards as defined by state statute, including, but not limited to non-use of all tobacco products for one (1) year prior to employment, not have been convicted of a felony or of a misdemeanor directly related to the position of employment sought, be in good physical condition as determined by a medical examination including, but not limited to, the provisions of NFPA 1582.No

previous experience required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Very Heavy Work requiring exertion of 200pounds of force occasionally, 100 pounds of force frequently, and 50 pounds of force constantly in the performance of fire suppression duties, to assist injured persons,and to use emergency equipment and related fire apparatus. Employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to grasp, carry, or feel, reach with hands andarms, climb, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, walk, push, pull, lift,talk, smell, and hear.

Must be able to drive and operate emergency vehicles,including the ability to operate a manual transmission.
