Job Summary

This role is responsible for onboarding, developing, coaching, mentoring, and performance managing all drivers and helpers. The manager establishes and maintains positive relationships with all front‑line employees and spends the majority of the day in the field with them.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensuring new employees have the tools, instruction, and feedback for successful daily duties.
  • Meeting with new employees daily to ensure consistent communication and support during onboarding.
  • Providing timely and consistent touchpoints with front‑line employees.
  • Reviewing best practices regularly to enhance daily performance.
  • Focusing on understanding and progress toward employee career goals.
  • Identifying and addressing improvement opportunities, collaborating with employees to ensure continued success.
  • Actively practicing and seeking feedback on coaching conversations.
  • Leading by example to ensure safety practices are paramount for each employee.
  • Teaching and developing an understanding of the WM Way.
  • Conducting root‑cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining.
  • Documenting and maintaining records required by regulatory agencies such as the Department of Transportation.
  • Reviewing and auditing documentation related to route operations daily (e.g., DVIRs, driver time and attendance, open tickets) and following up where appropriate.
  • Visiting customers and sites to evaluate and resolve safety issues, seeking service alternatives where appropriate.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree (accredited) or high school diploma (accredited) with two years of relevant work experience.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the location of the position.
  • Valid driver’s license upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful completion of the WM Operations Manager Trainee program.
