The Assistant Summer Camp Manager is to manage the Summer Camp counselors and to execute, with authority, the Camp Manager’s lesson plan for the day/week. The Assistant Summer Camp Manager strives to provide each participant with high quality recreational experiences that will be beneficial throughout their lives, as well as provide fun in a safe atmosphere, conducive to the growth of each child.

The Assistant Summer Camp Manager is a seasonal position (35 – 40 Hours) per week from the end of May through the end of July that oversees the day-to-day operations of summer camp and provides leadership to all camp counselors.

Responsibilities
  • Provides direct oversight for all aspects of camp.
  • Plan and organize weekly activities with the Camp Manager ensuring that all camp hours are covered.
  • Assists in supervising, supporting, and guiding camp staff throughout the camp day to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • May be required to step in and perform Camp Counselor duties as needed to maintain appropriate staff-to-camper ratios.
  • Assist in creating weekly newsletters for participant’s parents.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures stated in the City of Milton handbook.
  • Responsible for ensuring that staff adheres to all rules, policies and procedures established for the safety and security of the participants.
  • Establish and maintain a good rapport with all parents, children, and staff.
  • Greet parents as they drop-off and pick-up their children.
  • Inform parents of any reportable conduct or accidents that have occurred during camp. Assist in collecting and maintaining records for any completed discipline, incident, or accident reports.
  • Handling parent concerns or behavior problems when the Manager is unavailable.
  • Responsible for learning all pertinent information for each child (allergies, special needs, etc.).
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and facilitating inventory as well as daily cleaning.
  • Performs other related duties as required by the Summer Camp Manager.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
  • Sixteen (16) years of age and 1 – 2 years of previous camp experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must be available to attend the required Camp Compass training scheduled for May 28–29.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of six (6) out of seven (7) weeks of the camp session.
  • Must possess or acquire the following certifications:
    Standard First Aid and CPR/AED (American Heart Association or American Red Cross). Certification classes will be provided by the City of Milton prior to camp. Certifications must be valid through the employment period.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to swim and physically enter the pool to actively supervise and assist campers during aquatic activities is an essential function of this position. Employees must perform this function throughout the camp session.
  • Must have a valid Georgia Driver's License. High school diploma is preferred.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background screening required.

Provides day-to-day leadership to camp counselors by modeling professionalism, accountability, and teamwork.

Manages multiple tasks and shifting priorities in a fast-paced camp environment while maintaining safety and organization.

Exercises sound judgment and makes timely decisions within established policies when addressing camper needs, staff issues, or parent concerns.

Competencies/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to assist with overseeing daily camp operations and supporting the Camp Manager in implementing schedules, activities, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to supervise, support, and provide direction to camp counselors to ensure smooth daily operations and appropriate staff-to-camper ratios.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with campers, parents, staff, and visitors, including addressing concerns and sharing relevant information.
  • Ability to understand and follow written policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to complete and maintain basic documentation, including incident, accident, and discipline reports.
