Overview

The Manager’s ultimate goal is to maintain the integrity of the ideal camp environment: one that is safe, supportive, and fun for all campers. The Manager’s chief responsibilities are to train and evaluate staff throughout the summer, plan each day’s activity schedule, and create and implement strategies to help each child be as successful as possible.

Role Structure

The Manager position will serve two roles:

  • All the camp preparation leading up to the start of camp
  • The supervision of the day-to-day activity of Camp Compass

This position will be Seasonal part-time from February - June. When the City of Milton Summer Camp begins, the position moves to full-time until the conclusion of camp.

Responsibilities
  • Provides direct oversight for all aspects of camp.
  • Plan, organize and facilitate all camp staff meetings.
  • Coordinate and implement camp schedule of activities; make recommendations regarding purchase of supplies for camp; maintain inventory of camp supplies.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of camp program and staff.
  • Create weekly newsletters for camp parents.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures stated in the City of Milton handbook.
  • Ensure that staff adheres to all rules, policies and procedures established for the safety and security of the participants.
  • Supervise and coordinate the scheduling of the seasonal counselor staff.
  • Collect and manage all staff time sheets in a timely manner.
  • Oversee supervision of Summer Camp staff and provide general direction to them.
  • Establish and maintain a good rapport with all parents, children, and staff. Greet parents as they drop off and pick up their children.
  • Inform parents of any conduct problems or accidents that might have occurred during the program. Collect and maintain records for any completed discipline, incident, or accident reports.
  • Establish procedures for reporting accidents/incidents; handle medical, safety and severe weather emergencies.
  • Responsible for learning all pertinent information for each child (allergies, special needs, etc.).
  • Coordinate set-up and cleanup of camp including group area/location assessment and schedule; monitor cleanliness of facility and ensure routine daily cleaning is performed by staff.
  • Performs other related duties as required by Recreation Coordinator.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by two to three years previous experience and/or training that includes supervision in a camp environment; or any equivalent combination of education and specialized training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
  • Teacher certification is preferred.
  • Computer skills preferred.
  • Must possess or acquire the following certifications:
    Standard First Aid and CPR/AED (American Heart Association or American Red Cross). Certification classes will be provided by the City of Milton prior to camp. Certifications must be valid through the employment period.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to swim and physically enter the pool to actively supervise and assist campers during aquatic activities is an essential function of this position. Employees must perform this function throughout the camp session.
  • Must have a valid Georgia Driver's License.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background screening required.
  • Must be available all weeks of camp, training, and post-camp.
Leadership

Provides overall leadership and direction for Camp Compass, including hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating camp staff.

Complexity

Manages complex and varied responsibilities across pre-camp planning, daily operations, staffing, safety, and parent communication in a dynamic camp environment.

Decision Making

Exercises independent judgment and decision-making authority regarding camp operations, staff performance, safety issues, and participant needs.
