Summary of Position:

The Lower School at Milton Academy seeks a full-time, benefits-eligible Support Teacher to assist in K-5 classrooms during the academic day and to supervise students in the After School Program (ASP) from 3:00 to 4:00 PM daily, beginning in August 2026. This role focuses on supporting instruction, supervising students, and contributing to a positive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment. The Support Teacher will also serve as a substitute across all Lower School classrooms as needed.

In addition to classroom responsibilities, the Support Teacher will play an active role in the Lower School's After School Program by providing supervision and support for students attending ASP each afternoon. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the ASP team to help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for students at the end of the school day.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with children in a school or childcare setting, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a collaborative, flexible approach to working with students and colleagues. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in pursuing a career in education or gaining classroom experience in an independent school setting.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Classroom & Instructional Support
  • Provide classroom coverage for K-5 teachers as needed
  • Support homeroom teachers in delivering instruction in both whole group and small group settings:
    • one-on-one student support (reteach, practice, clarification)
    • helping with modifications/accommodations
  • Assist with the implementation of lesson plans and classroom activities
  • Collaboration with long-term projects
  • Support students with a range of learning styles and needs
  • Help maintain a positive, organized, and student-centered classroom environment
Student Supervision & Support
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, and transitions throughout the day
  • Escort students to and from classes and activities across campus
  • Monitor student safety and well-being at all times
  • Provide guidance and support to students as needed throughout the school day
After School Program Support
  • Support students with homework after school
  • Facilitate games and activities, particularly as part of ASP
  • Encourage freedom of choice and play, particularly as part of ASP
  • Escort children to and from various activity locations within the program and around campus
  • Maintain daily attendance in ASP
  • Monitor students to ensure their safety and well-being
Collaboration & Community
  • Collaborate with homeroom teachers, special area teachers, and learning support staff
  • Participate in faculty meetings and school-wide events as required
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful school community
  • Support school expectations for student behavior and engagement
Other Professional Expectations
  • Work cooperatively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with all members of the community
