Position: House Head, Wolcott House (Internal only)
Department: Upper School - Residential Life team
Hours: Part‑time includes nights and weekends
Note: All interested internal candidates should submit a letter of interest and a résumé highlighting relevant residential life experience. Interested candidates should discuss the House Head role with their supervisor as soon as possible to ensure that its responsibilities do not conflict with their current duties at Milton.
Eligibility Requirement: Due to the responsibilities, compensation structure, and Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) classification associated with this appointment, the role is designated as exempt. Applicants must currently hold an exempt position within the school.
Summary of PositionThe Upper School Residential Life team is seeking a House Head for Wolcott House, a boys’ dorm, to begin in August 2026.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Students and Student Support- Create a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment in the house that reflects the broader institutional values of respect and inclusion
- Foster a strong sense of house culture
- Oversee house activities
- Work with the house council and coordinate opportunities for student leadership
- Maintain contact with parents of students in the house
- Uphold standards of behavior and take disciplinary action when needed (including determining when discipline can be managed in‑house and when it should be handled by the office of student life)
- Lead the house staff, including out‑of‑house advisors
- Supervise the house’s advising program
- Set agendas for and run house staff meetings
- Oversee training and feedback for house staff
- Participate in the self‑evaluation process
- Undergo training for emergency preparedness
- Attend professional learning opportunities
- Meet weekly with house heads group
- Attend house head retreats
- Meet one‑on‑one on a bi‑weekly basis with the director of residential life and the counselor assigned to the house
- Work collaboratively with the other houses to ensure community within the residential life program (no exclusive house cultures)
- Participate in opportunities (both formal and informal) to improve the residential life curriculum
- Ensure the maintenance of spaces associated with the house, both exterior and interior
- Recommend space improvement needs and advocate for those with the upper school office of student life; maintain a neat and organized appearance of the house
- Manage the house budget
Supervision to be received: Reports to the Director of Residential Life.
Supervision to be exercised: Provides leadership and oversight of house staff in their supervision and advising of Wolcott House students.
Education, Certification, Licensure- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass an insurance and driver’s record check.
- Willingness to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
- Proven experience in a student‑facing role, with a demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and support student development.
- Applicants must currently hold an exempt position within the school.
- Walking throughout the dorm and campus multiple times daily without restriction
- Climbing stairs and navigating multi‑floor buildings
- Standing for extended periods during duty, meetings, and events
- Conducting evening rounds and responding to nighttime calls
- Lifting up to 10 pounds
