Assistant Director of Simulation and Experiential Learning

The Assistant Director(s) of Simulation and Experiential Learning supports the Associate Director in the day‑to‑day operational, technical, and educational functions of the nursing simulation and experiential learning environments. This role focuses on coordinating simulation and skills lab activities, overseeing open lab operations, supporting faculty in simulation‑based education (SBE), and ensuring a high‑quality, efficient, and learner‑centered simulation experience.

The Assistant Director works collaboratively with the Associate Director, faculty, and simulation operations personnel to implement simulation and experiential learning activities aligned with program outcomes and INACSL Standards of Best Practice.

We are seeking (2) candidates for this role. This position is part‑time staff position for 20‑24 hours weekly and supports day and evening programming during the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters.

Essential Functions
1. Operations and Lab Oversight
  • Supports daily simulation and skills lab operations under the direction of the Associate Director;
  • Coordinates and oversees open lab sessions, including student access, supervision, and support for independent practice;
  • Assists with:
    • Equipment sign‑out and tracking;
    • Setup and breakdown of skills stations, lab competencies, and simulation scenarios;
    • Maintaining lab readiness for scheduled and unscheduled use;
  • Monitors lab space utilization and identifies opportunities to improve efficiency and workflow;
  • Ensures equipment safety, functionality, and readiness for use;
  • Maintains organization and availability of supplies required for simulation and lab activities;
  • Supports scheduling coordination for simulation and lab activities in collaboration with the Associate Director.
2. Simulation and Technical Support
  • Prepares simulation environments, including:
    • Equipment setup;
    • Task trainers;
    • Scenario materials;
  • Operates simulation equipment during learning activities, including:
    • Patient simulators;
    • Audio‑visual and recording systems;
  • Programs simulator scenarios based on faculty specifications;
  • Troubleshoots equipment issues and ensures timely resolution to minimize disruption;
  • Assists with maintenance, testing, and upkeep of simulation equipment and technology;
  • Provides technical support to faculty, staff, and students in the use of simulation equipment and learning technologies.
3. Faculty and Student Support
  • Serves as a primary resource during open lab and independent practice sessions;
  • Supports faculty in the implementation of simulation and skills‑based learning activities;
  • Provides consultation to faculty on:
    • Simulation setup feasibility;
    • Equipment and resource needs;
    • Basic simulation design considerations;
  • Assists in preparing students for simulation experiences by ensuring access to appropriate materials and equipment;
  • Contributes to a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
4. Academic and Experiential Learning Support
  • Supports the implementation of simulation and lab‑based learning activities aligned with:
    • Program outcomes;
    • Professional nursing standards;
    • INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice;
  • Assists in the collection of simulation‑related evaluation data for:
    • Student learning outcomes;
    • Continuous quality improvement initiatives;
  • Supports faculty in evaluating simulation effectiveness and learner engagement;
  • Participates in the refinement of simulation scenarios and experiential learning activities;
  • Collaborates with faculty and leadership to support remediation and make‑up learning experiences.
5. Equipment and Resource Management
  • Maintains knowledge of simulation and lab equipment functionality and use;
  • Assists in inventory management and supply organization to ensure continuous lab readiness;
  • Provides input regarding equipment and supply needs based on observed usage and trends;
  • Supports coordination with vendors related to equipment maintenance or troubleshooting (as directed).
6. Professional Practice and Development
  • Maintains current competency in simulation‑based education practices;
  • Participates in continuing education related to simulation pedagogy and technology;
