Instructional Designer
The Instructional Designer at Curry College partners with faculty, academic departments, and campus stakeholders to design, develop, and enhance high-quality learning experiences across undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs. This role supports excellence in teaching and learning through course design, instructional technology integration, online and hybrid course development, accessibility practices, and faculty development initiatives.
The Instructional Designer collaborates closely with faculty to apply evidence-based instructional strategies that promote student engagement, belonging, retention, and academic success. In keeping with Curry College's distinctive commitment to supporting students with diverse learning profiles, including those served through the Program for Advancement of Learning (PAL), the Instructional Designer plays a key role in advancing course design practices that are accessible, flexible, and responsive to a range of learners.
The position also contributes to institutional priorities related to innovation, assessment, accreditation, and student-centered learning.
1. Instructional Design & Curriculum Design
- Partner with faculty to design and revise online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses using instructional design best practices.
- Support the development of engaging, inclusive, and accessible learning materials aligned with course and program outcomes.
- Apply learning science, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and student-centered pedagogy to course development.
- Assist faculty in aligning assessments, assignments, instructional activities, and learning outcomes.
- Develop templates, guides, and standards for course quality and consistency.
- Collaborate on curriculum mapping and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide one-on-one consultation and instructional coaching to faculty.
- Design and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and professional development opportunities related to teaching and learning.
- Support faculty adoption of instructional technologies and digital learning tools.
- Create resources and documentation to support effective teaching practices.
- Promote innovative and inclusive teaching approaches across the institution.
- Support the effective use of the College's learning management system (Canvas) and related educational technologies.
- Collaborate with Information Technology and Academic Affairs to evaluate and implement instructional tools and platforms.
- Troubleshoot instructional technology issues and provide guidance on best practices.
- Plan for and respond to emerging instructional technologies, including the responsible integration of generative AI into teaching, learning, and assessment; support faculty in developing AI-aware course design and academic integrity practices.
- Work with the Office of Accessibility Services to ensure digital course materials meet accessibility standards and support equitable learning experiences.
- Assist with course review processes and quality assurance initiatives.
- Support assessment and accreditation efforts through documentation, reporting, and instructional alignment.
- Maintain awareness of FERPA, copyright, accessibility, Title IX considerations in course design, state authorization (SARA) requirements for online programs, and other relevant higher education compliance standards.
- Serve as a collaborative partner across Academic Affairs and other campus departments.
- Participate in institutional committees and strategic initiatives related to teaching, learning, and student success.
- Contribute to initiatives supporting retention, persistence, and equitable student outcomes.
- Contribute to the evolution of the Faculty Center's service model and assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
