Student Engagement Coordinator
The Student Engagement Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing student engagement initiatives that foster leadership, belonging, and campus community. This position oversees the daily operations of the South Side Tavern, coordinates campus-wide programs and traditions, supervises student employees, and provides administrative and budget support for the Office of Student Engagement. Working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners, the Coordinator enhances the student experience through inclusive programming, operational excellence, leadership development, and meaningful opportunities for involvement.
Regular evening and weekend work is required to support departmental programs and major campus events - including non-traditional daily hours of 2:00-10:00pm.
1. General Responsibilities
- Support the mission, vision, and goals of the Office of Student Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs;
- Foster an inclusive, welcoming, and student-centered campus environment that promotes engagement, belonging, leadership, and personal growth;
- Serve as a resource and advocate for students by providing guidance, referrals, and support to student organizations and individual students;
- Participate in departmental, divisional, and institutional committees, initiatives, and campus events;
- Utilize assessment data and student feedback to evaluate programs, services, and operations and recommend improvements;
- Represent the Office of Student Engagement and the College in a professional manner at all times;
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and best practices in student engagement, leadership development, and higher education;
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental and institutional priorities;
- Serve as a primary point of contact for students, faculty, staff, vendors, and visitors by responding to inquiries and providing information regarding departmental programs, services, and policies;
- Manage departmental communication platforms, shared email accounts, reservation systems, and other administrative technologies.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the South Side Tavern, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for students;
- Coordinate Tavern programming, including themed events, late-night initiatives, and campus traditions;
- Supervise and provide ongoing leadership, training, and support to the South Side Tavern Manager student staff, including oversight of student staff assigned to Tavern/Pub programming and operations;
- Collaborate with campus partners (Dining Services, Public Safety, Facilities, etc.) to ensure smooth operations;
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies, including those related to alcohol service, risk management, and student conduct;
- Manage scheduling, logistics, and event setup for Tavern operations;
- Track attendance, assess program effectiveness, and implement improvements.
- Plan and execute a diverse calendar of campus-wide programs, with an emphasis on social, late-night, and weekend events;
- Support major campus traditions and signature programs (e.g., Welcome Weekend, Purple Pride Week, Spring Week, Senior Week);
- Collaborate with student organizations and campus departments to co-sponsor programs;
- Utilize student feedback and assessment data to inform programming decisions;
- Develop marketing strategies in collaboration with OSE staff to promote engagement.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate student employees supporting the Office of Student Engagement;
- Develop and facilitate training focused on leadership development, customer service, event management, and inclusive practices;
- Mentor student leaders and student employees while supporting their personal, professional, and leadership development;
- Coordinate student employee onboarding, payroll processes, and performance evaluations.
- Collect and analyze program participation data and student feedback to assess learning outcomes and operational effectiveness;
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and assessment documentation;
- Assist in the development of annual goals, strategic initiatives, and departmental assessment plans;
- Engage in continuous professional development, self-reflection, and goal setting to support personal and departmental growth.
- Collaborate regularly with campus partners, including Athletics, Residence Life & Housing, Public Safety, Facilities, Dining Services, Conference & Event Services, Counseling Services, PAL, SAIL, the Diversity Center, Admissions, and other College departments to support student engagement initiatives;
- Assist with College-wide programs and events, including Orientation, Move-In, Convocation, Open Houses, Commencement, and other institutional initiatives as assigned;
