Campus Police Officer
The Curry College Public Safety Department provides a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff and community members. The department operates a hybrid model with sworn Campus Police Officers working alongside non-sworn civilian Public Safety Officers to provide 24/7 coverage.
Essential Functions- Attend meetings and serve on boards composed of campus partners.
- Prepare incident and accident reports for supervisory review and possible dissemination.
- Maintain confidentiality, operational parameters, professional protocols and individual privacy.
- Perform duties assigned by the supervisor or designee.
- Hold a high ethical standard and enforce policies, procedures and laws accordingly.
- Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and establish effective communication with diverse populations.
- Think critically and make difficult decisions quickly and with limited information.
- Show a high level of attention to detail.
Curry College considers both entry‑level candidates and academy‑trained and certified lateral candidates. The following are required for all candidates:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum age of 21.
- Active Massachusetts driver’s license.
- Eligibility for appointment as a Special State Police Officer and maintenance of that status for the duration of employment.
- Eligibility for appointment as a Norfolk County Deputy Sheriff and maintenance of that status for the duration of employment.
- Eligibility for the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Certification (POST) and maintenance of certification for the duration of employment.
- Physically meet the Human Resources Division (HRD) comprehensive medical exam and Physical Ability Test (PAT).
- Attend and complete a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) certified basic police Recruit Officer Course.
- Complete a prescribed Field Training Program.
- Pass a comprehensive background investigation, a pre‑employment psychological examination, and a pre‑employment medical exam.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
- Obtained POST certification through an accepted program or permanent exemption from the MPTC approved by Massachusetts State Police.
- Active certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Stop the Bleed.
- Prior campus law‑enforcement experience.
- Knowledge of CAD and report‑writing operating systems.
- Knowledge of police procedures, laws of arrest and criminal procedures.
- Understanding of the dynamics and culture of a higher‑education institution.
$25.00 to $27.00 an hour
