Campus Police Officer

The Curry College Public Safety Department provides a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff and community members. The department operates a hybrid model with sworn Campus Police Officers working alongside non-sworn civilian Public Safety Officers to provide 24/7 coverage.

Essential Functions
  • Protect life and property. Identify safety and security problems, take necessary steps to resolve them efficiently and effectively.
  • Respond safely and rapidly to emergency calls for police service (e.g., crimes in progress, suspected criminal activity, medical emergencies, environmental emergencies, fires, alarms, accidents). Render aid, advise victims of available services, and make referrals. Conduct initial investigations and follow-up investigations. Assist Massachusetts State Police, Milton Police, Milton Fire, Coastal EMS, and other public safety agencies as requested.
  • Report incidents in violation of law, arrest violators, obtain criminal summonses, testify in court, and perform other duties associated with the criminal justice system or college rules.
  • Prevent criminal activity through highly visible, omnipresent patrols. Attend community events and speak with students, faculty and staff about safety strategies.
  • Use analytical data to inform preventative patrol tactics and problem-solving strategies.
  • Perform traffic direction, parking enforcement, and crowd control duties as assigned.
  • Apply knowledge of police practices and investigative procedures of a comprehensive campus law‑enforcement program.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations accurately.
  • Operate specialized law‑enforcement equipment, including vehicles, radios, and video systems.
  • Commit to diversity, equity, and inclusion, fostering a welcoming work environment.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Additional Functions
    • Attend meetings and serve on boards composed of campus partners.
    • Prepare incident and accident reports for supervisory review and possible dissemination.
    • Maintain confidentiality, operational parameters, professional protocols and individual privacy.
    • Perform duties assigned by the supervisor or designee.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Curry College considers both entry‑level candidates and academy‑trained and certified lateral candidates. The following are required for all candidates:

    • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
    • Minimum age of 21.
    • Active Massachusetts driver’s license.
    • Eligibility for appointment as a Special State Police Officer and maintenance of that status for the duration of employment.
    • Eligibility for appointment as a Norfolk County Deputy Sheriff and maintenance of that status for the duration of employment.
    • Eligibility for the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Certification (POST) and maintenance of certification for the duration of employment.
    • Physically meet the Human Resources Division (HRD) comprehensive medical exam and Physical Ability Test (PAT).
    • Attend and complete a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) certified basic police Recruit Officer Course.
    • Complete a prescribed Field Training Program.
    • Pass a comprehensive background investigation, a pre‑employment psychological examination, and a pre‑employment medical exam.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
    • Obtained POST certification through an accepted program or permanent exemption from the MPTC approved by Massachusetts State Police.
    • Active certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Stop the Bleed.
    • Prior campus law‑enforcement experience.
    • Knowledge of CAD and report‑writing operating systems.
    • Knowledge of police procedures, laws of arrest and criminal procedures.
    • Understanding of the dynamics and culture of a higher‑education institution.
    Hourly Rate

    $25.00 to $27.00 an hour
