Job Overview
The Corporate Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing complex accounting areas including pension accounting, debt accounting, revenue recognition, and legal accruals. This role ensures policy adherence, technical accounting compliance, and high-quality financial reporting while serving as a key partner to business units and corporate stakeholders.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with a process improvement mindset, cross-functional collaboration skills, and the ability to operate across the full Record-to-Report (R2R) cycle.
Key Job Responsibilities Technical Accounting & Policy Governance- Ensure adherence to corporate accounting policies and U.S. GAAP.
- Provide technical accounting guidance and ad hoc support to Business Units; research complex accounting issues and assist with preparing technical memos when required.
- Maintain and update accounting position documentation and memorialize conclusions on significant transactions.
- Maintain account reconciliation ownership for assigned corporate accounts.
- Own and review journal entries (JEs), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and appropriate supporting documentation.
- Perform and review monthly/quarterly flux analyses (statutory, management reporting, vs. budget, vs. prior year/prior quarter).
- Support disclosure schedules and respond to inquiries from corporate headquarters.
- Serve as a Record-to-Report (R2R) champion where applicable, ensuring high-quality and timely close execution.
- Provide support for budgeting and forecasting processes in partnership with FP&A.
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure accurate projections related to pensions, debt, revenue, and legal accruals.
- Support preparation of management reporting packages and variance analysis.
- Coordinate and support internal and external audits.
- Prepare and provide requested audit documentation and walkthrough support.
- Participate in SOC 1 review processes where applicable.
- Ensure strong internal controls are designed, documented, and operating effectively.
- Support with completion of quarterly management certifications.
- Support the project team with the controls workstream for the ongoing SAP S/4 Hana migration.
- Develop a deep understanding of end-to-end processes beyond Corporate Accounting's functional scope.
- Identify process gaps, inefficiencies, and automation opportunities.
- Lead or support implementation of efficiency gains across the accounting lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for assigned areas.
- Oversee accounting for defined benefit and defined contribution plans.
- Coordinate with third‑party actuaries for valuation reports and assumptions.
- Review actuarial reports and ensure appropriate accounting entries and disclosures.
- Analyze pension‑related flux and forecast impacts.
- Manage accounting for debt instruments, interest accruals, amortization of discounts/premiums, and covenant compliance.
- Review debt agreements for accounting implications.
- Support related disclosures and reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with ASC 606 (or applicable standard).
- Review contracts for proper revenue treatment.
- Provide guidance to Business Units on revenue‑related accounting matters.
- Support audit inquiries related to revenue accounting.
- Coordinate with Legal department to assess contingent liabilities.
- Ensure appropriate accrual and disclosure of legal matters.
- Document accounting conclusions and maintain supporting schedules.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting with 7+ years of progressive accounting experience; CPA preferred.
- Knowledge of US GAAP and self‑motivated to independently study accounting concepts.
- Experience overseeing and mentoring staff.
- Strong critical thinking and intuitive problem‑solving skills; attention to detail required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage audits and support SOX/SOC compliance.
- Self‑driven with proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
- Prior experience with SAP and/or system migrations a plus.
- Strong communication skills to interact and engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Must possess a high level of organization and planning skills to handle many priorities, manage projects, and leverage internal influence across multiple groups/teams.
At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $125,000-$145,000. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
