Summary:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the company’s day-to-day accounting operations and maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information. This position owns the monthly and annual close processes, financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, internal controls, and compliance activities. The Accounting Manager also develops and supports the accounting team, partners with operating leaders, and provides financial analysis and recommendations that improve profitability, working capital, and business performance.

Accounting

and financial reporting
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including establishing timelines, assigning responsibilities, reviewing reconciliations, and resolving reporting issues.
  • Prepare or review monthly financial statements and supporting schedules to ensure completeness, accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, reserves, intercompany transactions, and balance-sheet support.
  • Ensure accounting transactions are recorded consistently with company accounting policies and applicable generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Maintain supporting documentation and an effective financial close checklist.
Manufacturing and inventory accounting
  • Oversee inventory accounting, including inventory valuation, costing methodologies, cycle-count and physical-inventory reconciliation, obsolete and slow-moving inventory reserves, and related internal controls.
  • Partner with operations to analyze purchasing, material usage, scrap, freight, processing costs, margins, and other manufacturing or distribution variances.
  • Review product, customer, branch, and operating-unit profitability and communicate significant trends or exceptions to management.
  • Ensure appropriate accounting and control over fixed assets, capital projects, disposals, depreciation, and construction-in-progress balances.

Internal controls and process improvement
  • Develop, document, implement, and monitor accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, close efficiency, system utilization, and segregation of duties.
  • Evaluate recurring manual processes and recommend practical automation or standardization.
  • Support accounting-system implementations, upgrades, integrations, and data-quality initiatives.
  • Maintain adequate documentation and cross-training to promote continuity of critical accounting functions.
Treasury, working capital, and compliance
  • Support daily cash management, cash forecasting, banking activity, borrowing-base reporting, and debt or covenant reporting, as assigned.
  • Monitor accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, and other working-capital trends and escalte material concerns.
  • Coordinate information required for income, sales and use, property, payroll, and other tax filings.
  • Coordinate annual audits, reviews, benefit-plan audits, and other external examinations, including preparation of schedules and resolution of requested items.
  • Maintain calendars and supporting documentation for recurring financial, tax, debt, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Leadership and business partnership
  • Supervise, coach, and develop assigned accounting and finance employees, including establishing goals, providing ongoing feedback, conducting performance discussions, and identifying training needs.
  • Establish clear responsibilities, deadlines, review procedures, and backup coverage throughout the accounting function.
  • Partner with sales, operations, purchasing, human resources, and executive management to explain financial results, address accounting issues, and support business decisions.
  • Communicate accounting requirements in a practical manner to non-financial employees.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, continuous improvement, and responsive internal service
