Role Overview :The Vice President of Accounting is a leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, integrity, and scalability of the company's accounting function across its three business verticals, Development, Construction, and Property Management. Reporting directly to the CEO/Founders, the VP serves as a strategic partner on financial matters, elevating the company's financial infrastructure, systems, and internal controls while continuing to oversee general accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and developing financial partnerships for the sole purpose of executing the financial function of the company and its associated entities.
This includes producing standalone financials for each vertical, property level accounting and financial reporting for the company’s managed properties, as well as a consolidated, company-wide financial view. The VP will also lead a small, focused accounting team and drive process and systems transformation.
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to the CEO/Founders on financial strategy and long-term business planning
- Translate company growth objectives into financial and operational strategy for the accounting function
- Provide financial insight and recommendations to inform major business decisions
Lead and mentor the accounting team, currently with 1 direct report - Build a lean, scalable accounting function through efficient workflows, automation, and strong processes and internal controls across AP/AR, reconciliations, and reporting
- Lead the implementation of real estate accounting and property/asset management systems (e.g., Real Page) to support scalability, including data migration, workflow design, and staff training
- Establish KPIs and dashboards that give leadership real-time visibility into financial performance
- Continuously assess and improve the technology stack supporting accounting, tax, and treasury operations
- Perform and/or oversee accounting activities and related entities:
Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Journal Entries & Bank Reconciliations, Monthly/Quarterly/Annual Financial Statement preparation and Financial Statement analysis - Prepare standalone financial statements for each business vertical (Development, Construction, and Property Management) as well as a consolidated, company-wide financial statement view for leadership
- Construction accounting for active developments, including percentage-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition, job costing, and draw/budget-to-actual tracking
- Prepare the accounting function for the planned transition to in-house property management (targeted next year), including evaluating property management accounting systems and workflows
- Prepare and manage annual operating corporate budgets
- Participate in forecasting and strategic planning (annual, three, and five year)
- Work with and review legal, financial, and tax structures for developments
- Oversee tax planning, preparation and management and related entities
- Review and manage insurance program
- Ensure timely federal, state, and local tax reporting (1099, K-1, 990, etc.)
