Job Description Summary

Under general direction, responsible for completing the day to day general financial accounting processes and the preparation of financial analyses for Advocate Aurora Health (AAH) and its subsidiaries to ensure accurate and timely recording and reporting of financial and statistical data in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), governmental regulations and AAH’s accounting policies. Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of assigned audit responsibilities.

Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of AAH’s accounting systems, policies and procedures, process improvements and internal controls. Works in close partnership with the Financial Planning, Financial Reporting, Tax, Supply Chain, Legal, Human Resources, and Information Technology teams.

Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of assigned audit responsibilities.

Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of AAH’s accounting systems, policies and procedures, process improvements and internal controls. Works in close partnership with the Financial Planning, Financial Reporting, Tax, Supply Chain, Legal, Human Resources, and Information Technology teams.

• Performs monthly closing procedures, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliation's, supporting schedules and statistical analysis to ensure the accuracy of the financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, governmental regulations, AAH accounting policies and the financial close schedule.
• Prepares financial statements and reports, including comparison to budget and historical trends, in accordance with AAH’s accounting policies and U.S. GAAP in order to ensure accurate financial statements in collaboration with the Financial Reporting Team for all internal/external reporting requirements.
• Assists in the investigation, research and in the development and implementation of new policies or procedures related to internal financial reporting matters raised by finance or operations to ensure financial activity is recorded in a manner consistent with AAH’s accounting policies and procedures and U.S. GAAP.
• Reviews assigned areas of responsibility for continuous process improvement and assists in the development/implementation of improved procedures.
• Provides accurate and timely completion of and responses to internal and external auditors’ requests and queries.
• Responds to ad-hoc reporting, analysis and special assignments, as needed.
• Responsible for monitoring, evaluating and implementing internal controls over areas of responsibility.
• Prepares tax returns and schedules in collaboration with the Tax team.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

• Typically requires 3 years of experience in accounting.

• Basic knowledge of U.S. GAAP and government rules and regulations.
