Summary

MSOE invites applications for a full-time Electronics Technician to join our Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical (ECBE) Department Team. The Electronics Technician is tasked with maintaining ECBE Laboratories to support the Biomedical, Computer, Electrical, Software Engineering and Computer Science programs. The Technician has extensive service interaction with students, faculty, and staff for curricular development, course kits, checking-in and out parts and equipment.

The Technician will also rebuild and refurbish ECBE laboratories in summers.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain over 90 suites of test equipment consisting of: oscilloscopes; programmable power supplies; digital multi-meters; arbitrary waveform generators; motors lab; microwave lab; servo-controls lab; communications lab; various development boards
  • Maintenance and training of the ECBE maker lab consisting of 3D printers, soldering stations and various hand tools
  • Use Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) software
  • Fabricate fixtures using laser engraver, 3D printers, and shop tools
  • Be familiar with Environmental, Health and Safety Rules including lockout/tagout, material safety data sheets, etc.
  • Maintain and update Lab Management Plans for all ECBE laboratories
  • Supervise/train student workers (typically 6-8), ensure productivity and quality
  • Assist with organization and maintenance of inventory

Qualifications
  • Minimum of a two (2) year degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, electronics, or closely related field
    -OR- 2 + years of relevant industry and/or military experience
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to learn and use Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) software
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral form
  • Adept at electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repair
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is largely sedentary, the ability to move is required. The employee is occasionally required to traverse within their work area as well as other areas on campus.
  • The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment, including but not limited to computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
