Summary - basic function of the roleThe Total Cost Out Program Manager leads the program management discipline required to identify, prioritize, execute, and track enterprise cost savings initiatives. This role owns the consolidated total cost out funnel, integrating opportunities across negotiations, supplier resourcing, outsourcing, make‑buy, VA/VE, and other cross‑functional savings work streams into one coordinated governance process. The role partners with Category Management, Product Strategy, Engineering, Operations, and Finance to connect bottom-up category and part-level opportunities with top‑down product margin priorities.
Reporting to the Director, SCM Program Management and Industrialization, this role requires strong project management capability, business acumen, and the ability to lead through influence across a matrixed organization. The role also carries dotted‑line responsibility for coordinating sustaining engineering resources assigned to cost out initiatives. While sustaining engineering retains its formal Engineering reporting structure, this position establishes the governance, accountability, and execution cadence needed to balance savings delivery, technical rigor, resource capacity, and business priorities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities- Own the consolidated total cost out funnel and tracker across Procurement, Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, Engineering, Quality, Product Management, and Product Strategy.
- Lead governance routines to validate assumptions, prioritize projects, assign ownership, track milestones, elevate risks, and report realized and forecasted savings.
- Develop and improve the total cost out operating model, including standard work, project intake criteria, prioritization methods, reporting routines, and escalation processes that make savings execution repeatable and scalable.
- Monitor funnel health and savings pipeline quality by assessing project mix, value, timing, conversion risk, aging items, resource constraints, and sufficiency of opportunities to support business cost‑out commitments.
- Partner with the Sr. Director of Category Management for direct materials to support savings funnel generation through category, product, supplier, and targeted deep‑dive ideation activities.
- Collaborate with the VP of Product Strategy and product leaders to identify low‑margin products and connect top‑down margin priorities with bottom‑up category, supplier, and part‑level savings actions.
- Coordinate with functional partners to support the development and use of should‑cost models, total cost of ownership analyses, cost‑driver trees, and scenario models; ensure outputs are integrated into the cost‑out funnel, prioritization process, decision cadence, and savings governance.
- Support make‑versus‑buy evaluations by coordinating cross‑functional inputs from Category Management, Operations, Engineering, Finance, and Product Strategy, ensuring business, capacity, cost, risk, velocity, capital, and strategic considerations are captured for leadership decision‑making.
