Job Summary
Dennis Group Safety Managers assist in the development, management, and implementation of a Health and Safety Program for all of Dennis Group’s projects. Our projects are vertical, industrial construction projects involving multiple engineering disciplines and sub‑contractor trades. Our safety professionals will be responsible for the safety practices of all personnel on our projects. This position requires knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety management, accident investigation and training in the construction industry.
SafetyResponsibilities
- Assist in developing and implementing health and safety program.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and coordinating health and safety training and activities.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local safety laws.
- Compile incident rate data on injuries, accidents, etc.
- Prepare and deliver safety toolbox talks and training topics for contractors.
- Implement and enforce JSA and AHA.
- Attend and prepare safety actions for pre‑construction conferences, pre‑work meetings, inspection meetings, and periodic in‑progress project meetings.
- Conduct and document Jobsite Safety Observations.
- Review subcontractor safety pre‑qualification submittals.
- Work with Construction Managers and Sr Safety Managers to establish job‑site safety procedures and policies during initial project mobilization and as needed.
- Act as full‑time on‑site safety coordinator for projects as required.
- Review safety programs with client representatives and governmental agencies.
- Research construction safety best practices.
- Support talent growth within the organization.
- Educate and provide training to all levels of Dennis Group personnel on accident/injury prevention procedures.
- Provide coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisor.
- Investigate accidents, determine root causes, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Prepare and distribute data reports of accident and incident metrics, such as OSHA recordable and LT rates.
- Bachelor’s degree in health and safety, risk management, or construction; candidates enrolled in such a program considered for internships.
- 4‑7 years of experience overseeing safety activities on construction projects.
- 4‑7 years of experience developing, implementing, and coordinating health and safety training and activities for construction projects.
- 4‑7 years of experience performing construction job site safety inspections and conducting special studies and investigations related to safety and health for the company.
- OSHA training certifications and other professional certifications.
- Ability to travel to job sites throughout North America; travel estimated 75%+, unless stationed on a jobsite during first 6 months for training.
- Proficient in MS Windows, Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Sound judgment and independent decision making.
- Self‑starter, strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk; prolonged periods standing, walking, and working around uneven project site surfaces.
- Ability to traverse and inspect all areas of a jobsite in all weather conditions; includes walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, stretching.
- Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
- On‑call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
Projects located throughout the United States and Canada; travel estimated 75%+, unless stationed on a jobsite during first 6 months for training.
