Position OverviewThe Construction Project Manager I oversees assigned residential construction projects from pre‑construction through homeowner closing. This role is responsible for project execution, contractor coordination, milestone accountability, budget tracking, and operational coordination across assigned projects. The Project Manager I supports Milwaukee Habitat’s volunteer‑led construction model by coordinating closely with field leadership and operational support teams.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities Portfolio Execution- Manage assigned project schedules and milestone completion
- Coordinate subcontractors, inspections, and material readiness
- Ensure projects remain aligned with CO and closing targets
- Monitor project budgets and cost controls
- Coordinate project‑level subcontractor scheduling and execution
- Ensure subcontractors understand project scopes and expectations
- Escalate contractor performance concerns appropriately
Coordinate with:
- Project Manager
- Construction field team
- Family Services
- Volunteer Services
- Maintain accurate project documentation
- Ensure compliance with grant/funding requirements
- Approve and process project invoices
- Support homeowner communication during construction process
- Coordinate homeowner walkthroughs and project readiness milestones
- Homes on schedule
- Inspection pass rate
- Open project issues
- Material readiness delays
- CO forecast variance
Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be required.
QualificationsEducation/
Experience:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
- Post‑secondary degree preferred
- Minimum 2 years residential construction project management experience or 1 year with Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity
- Experience working with contractors
- Experience supporting volunteer‑based construction preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Valid Wisconsin driver license and good driving record
- Strong personal and written communication skills to work across departments and with various levels of management.
- Ability to manage a high‑production construction schedule with multiple deadlines, in‑house and outside resources, and interdepartmental coordination.
- Able to work well with all staff and volunteers.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds, perform manual tasks, and move about rough terrain at site locations.
- Computer literacy with experience in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Capable of managing projects, processes, deadlines, shifting priorities, and a budget while adhering to the policies and procedures of the organization.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high level of ethics, integrity, and initiative.
- Ability to articulate Milwaukee Habitat’s mission and the critical need for safe, decent and affordable housing in Milwaukee to donors, prospects, volunteers and other stakeholders.
