CAA Media Team Assistants will combine digital and traditional forms of multimedia storytelling to support the initiatives related to recruitment, retention, and reputation for the College of the Arts & Architecture, comprised of Peck School of the Arts and School of Architecture & Urban Planning.

Essential Functions of the Job

Under the direction of the CAA Marketing & Communications Lead and in collaboration with faculty, staff and fellow students, you will brainstorm and pitch stories to be told through various content mediums including traditional media, videos and photos, graphic design, and social media.

Depending on your career goals, you will specialize in one or more of the following content mediums:

Multimedia Journalism
  • Interview faculty, students, and artists to gather insights and quotes.
  • Research and write news articles and stories for CAA platforms.
  • Monitor and track CAA faculty, staff, alumni and students in the media.
  • Circulate deliverables to relevant stakeholders for review and approval; follow up as necessary to finalize content prior to publication.
Photo & Video
  • Plan and execute video and photo shoots, including scouting sites, capturing b-roll, conducting interviews, and covering events.
  • Edit and produce videos to meet quality and branding standards, ensuring the timely delivery of edited videos for use in CAA platforms.
  • Curate visuals and organize files for future use in CAA visual archives.
  • Maintain equipment and recommend upgrades as necessary.
Graphic Design
  • Design and iterate graphics for CAA platforms, including social media channels, websites, and marketing collateral.
  • Collaborate with other CAA Media Team Assistants to visually enhance written news articles and stories.
  • Assist with the development of digital newsletters, e-blasts, and social media posts using software such as Emma and Adobe Express.
  • Ensure all design work aligns with brand guidelines and messaging.
Social Media
  • Assist with maintaining a social media calendar for platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and Linked In.
  • Monitor and engage with select social media channels through shares, interactions, and collaborative posts.
  • Coordinate Instagram takeovers in consultation with faculty and staff.
  • Contribute to the management of a CAA social media directory.
Qualifications
  • Interested in telling stories that are accurate and inclusive
  • Experience using Instagram, Facebook, and other social media platforms
  • Strong writing and editing skills and ability to adapt tone and style to audience
  • Familiar with relevant software, such as Adobe Creative Cloud and content management systems, and ability to learn new platforms
  • Reliable transportation to campus and occasional off-campus events
Hours/Scheduling
  • Approximate hours per week: 5-10
  • Part-Time, Temporary
  • You will have a set schedule of in-person hours, and you will need to be able to accommodate occasional evening and weekend hours for interviews, site scouting, event coverage, and more.
  • Hours are reduced during summer and winter breaks. Pending your availability and business needs, some hours during break are possible.

They will also practice effective internal communication by pitching ideas, discussing revisions, and coordinating with faculty, staff and students.
  • Collaboration: Students will work as part of a multidisciplinary media team, coordinating roles and timelines to produce cohesive, high-quality content. They will learn to give and receive constructive feedback while collaborating with faculty, staff, and fellow students across the college.
