The Visitor Experience Associate serves as the first point of contact for visitors to the Haggerty Museum of Art, setting the tone for the entire visitor experience. The role includes handling visitor reception, orientation, admission, and general inquiries while advocating for visitor needs and promoting the museum’s welfare.
Responsibilities- Welcome and effectively orient all museum visitors, including general visitors, tour groups, and staff appointments.
- Perform opening and closing procedures, detecting and reporting any unusual circumstances, unsafe conditions, security risks, or property damage.
- Sell museum merchandise and memberships.
- Implement safety and security procedures developed by Campus Safety and the Haggerty Museum of Art, utilizing the panic button to summon Campus Safety in case of an emergency.
- Track visitor attendance, including special events.
- Answer the museum’s general telephone line and provide basic information to callers.
- Direct and coordinate Student Gallery Guards as needed to ensure consistent and adequate gallery coverage during all public hours.
- Assist with set‑up and tear‑down for special events (tables, chairs, podium, AV, sound system).
- Assist Curator of Academic Engagement with class setup and facilitation, including computers and projection setup and configuration.
- High School Diploma required;
Bachelor’s degree preferred. - Prior experience in museum visitor services or retail preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, diplomacy, and tact in dealing with sensitive situations.
- Ability to exercise sound and mature judgment and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with a diverse public.
- Strong commitment to providing quality customer service.
- Knowledge of computers, audio‑visual, and sound equipment preferred.
- Interest and/or experience in museums; supervisory experience preferred.
