Pay Rate: $13.00/hour
SummarySeasonal role in a museum environment. Guest Service Representatives I oversee daily museum operations, exhibits, experiences, and events, ensuring high standards of guest service. They are the first point of contact for guests and contribute to the museum’s educational mission through informal STEM education, encouraging curiosity and discussion of science topics. Candidates should be outgoing, enthusiastic, passionate about the museum’s mission, and motivated to succeed.
Responsibilities- Guest Engagement & Education
- Provide exceptional guest service by engaging guests with respect and enthusiasm, ensuring a welcoming and informative experience.
- Lead engaging conversations about exhibit content with diverse groups, adapting communication to suit age, background, and interests.
- Apply informal science education techniques based on team training, offering hands-on demonstrations and interactive activities.
- Respond promptly to guest inquiries and needs, tailoring interactions to be educational and engaging.
- Exhibit Operation, Maintenance & Cleanliness
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot exhibits to ensure they are powered on, functional, and visually appealing.
- Perform regular checks and minor repairs, report issues, and submit trouble tickets as needed.
- Maintain clean, organized, and professional exhibit spaces.
- Monitor exhibit readiness and keep displays in optimal condition, ensuring safety and visual engagement.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Required to use motor coordination and finger dexterity (e.g., keyboarding, machine operation).
- Required to communicate with customers via telephone, email, and/or in-person.
- Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds.
- Exposure to typical museum environments; occasional exposure to dirt, odors, and noise, weather extremes.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2–3 years of customer service experience in a museum or hospitality setting preferred.
Other Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
- Experience using inquiry-based approaches to learning.
- Experience giving tours or presentations in an educational setting.
- Previous work in a museum or cultural institution setting preferred.
