JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW

Under the supervision of the Director of Programs, the Project Ready – Mentor and Education Coach will provide coaching for Project Ready – Mentoring Services to area teens, and will work in collaboration with MUL Career Coaches and Education Coaches and other staff to connect teens to mentors, educational programs, such as MATC - GED + Healthcare Customer Service, employment opportunities and assist with job retention, and serve as a liaison between employers, educational institutions, and/or Milwaukee Public Schools.

Note:

PROJECT READY – Is a mentor/mentee relationship building model with core career and college readiness activities encouraging meaningful parent and family engagement. The program prepares 6th – 12th grade students to make positive academic and social decisions, while developing the essential skills, attitude, and aptitude for transition from adolescent to adulthood and equips them for success in college, career, and life.

Students meet career professionals and college representatives, attend field experiences, and participate in cultural enrichment along with wraparound activities, such as community service-learning and financial training. In addition, meaningful parent/guardian and family engagement is highly encouraged!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide Case Management support to assist mentees.
  • Develop (student) client’s profiles, case files for clients and document in established database.
  • Co
    - Case Manage with Education and Career Coach to establish educational needs, career assessments and other related educational resources to assist with matching the mentee with employment, if age appropriate.
  • Develop an Employability Plan including timelines for each client, if age appropriate.
  • Assess (student) client’s career path, employment, vocational and placement stability.
  • Research jobs, industry requirements, and worker characteristics to determine job functions and worker traits.
  • Provide career counseling and perform follow-up with student clients and employers during the hiring process and job search activities and match student client training, experience, and qualifications with available job openings.
  • Recruit, develop, and maintain relationships with partner schools.
  • Recruit, develop, and maintain relationships with perspective mentor candidates for Project Ready.
  • Ensure all students in the program complete application process.
  • Ensure all mentors in the program complete application process including a background check.
  • Plan, schedule and conduct student/mentor contacts using appropriate communication and marketing techniques to fit student/mentor needs.
  • Work independently to make calls, visits to monitor activities of student/mentor relationships.
  • Build and maintain successful long-term relationships with mentors.
  • Plan, schedule, and conduct engagement/celebration activities for mentors and students.
  • Conduct meetings with school personnel (i.e., counselors, social worker, principal) for student recruitment.
  • Monitor changes and trends in the economic market and report information to management for projections of future student employment opportunities, job development, and training programs.
  • Serve as a liaison between employers, school, MUL to resolve any job seeker customer service and retention issues.
  • Identify and resolve employer needs and/or requests, special issues, and complaints. Communicate those concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Initiate additional selection and referral procedures as needed to meet student and employer’s needs such as onsite interviews or other special recruitment efforts. Develop job openings, which are targeted and focused to Project Ready student seekers.
  • Work closely with Empowerment Services Manager with Essential Skills and Financial Training.
  • Keep and maintain documents, and track all records pertaining to the following: mentor requirements/recruitment process, mentor and mentee activities, mentor/mentee success stories, student employment opportunities, services and placements, and other pertinent activities.
