Special Education Teacher – Full Time
Location:
Bruce Guadalupe Preschool, Milwaukee, WI 53204
Education Level: 4 Year Degree. Licensure:
Wisconsin DPI teacher licensure with Early Childhood Special Education (1809) or Cross-Categorical Special Education License (1801).
- Support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students with disabilities by creating individualized learning plans and collaborating with general education teachers and families.
- Ensure compliance with all special education laws and guidelines and provide direct educational services according to each student’s IEP.
- Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction, assess student learning, manage classroom behavior, and build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with families, school staff, and other service providers using evidence-based strategies and accommodations.
- Modify and adapt general education curriculum to meet diverse learner needs and provide curricular and behavioral support for students with IEPs.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of content and pedagogy and plan effective lessons that accommodate different learning styles.
- Integrate technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance classroom learning experiences.
- Assess student progress regularly and use data to inform planning, groupings, and future instruction.
- Communicate with families about student progress, goals, and outcomes; participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings as appropriate.
- Collaborate with special education staff, pupil services staff, administrators, and support staff to provide inclusive and individualized support.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and behavior, and prepare progress reports and other required documentation in a timely manner.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment that supports student engagement and learning.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, participate in staff meetings and school initiatives, and uphold professional standards and ethics.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications (email, Word, Excel, Google Suite) and willingness to leverage technology in instruction.
- Strong communication skills (oral and written) with students, families, and staff.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information and demonstrate professional, respectful interactions with diverse stakeholders.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and a growth mindset geared toward continuous improvement.
- Students with IEPs make measurable academic and/or behavioral progress based on individual goals.
- IEPs are implemented with fidelity; services are delivered as documented and updated on schedule.
- Clear, measurable IEP goals aligned to student needs; data-driven planning and communication with families and general education teachers.
- Progress monitoring demonstrates growth; proactive behavioral supports are in place; BIPs are followed and adjusted as needed.
- Ability to move around the classroom and school environment (standing, walking, stairs, bending, kneeling).
- Visual and auditory acuity to supervise students and respond to classroom needs.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist with classroom materials and student transitions.
- Manual dexterity for computer use and teaching tools; extended screen time may be required.
- Classroom/school environment with regular interaction with students, families, and staff; some outdoor activity during field trips or recess.
- May require supervision in various settings and occasional exposure to illnesses, noise, and interruptions.
- Work schedule aligns with the school calendar and may include after-school events and meetings.
