Position Overview
The University of Wisconsin‑Milwaukee Department of Teaching and Learning is seeking an English Education Teaching Faculty to serve as Program Chair and instructor beginning August 2026. The position is a full‑time (9‑month) fixed renewable teaching academic staff role.
Key Responsibilities- Teach English education certification courses to undergraduate, post‑baccalaureate, and graduate students and supervise teacher candidates in field placements.
- Lead the English Education program as Program Chair, collaborating with other program chairs, academic advisors, and the field office.
- Schedule program courses and allocate teaching opportunities.
- Hire, onboard, mentor, and support program instructors.
- Advise graduate and post‑bacc. certification students.
- Design curriculum and develop instruction techniques, including new pedagogical methods.
- Develop and serve as principal or co‑principal investigator on instructional development grants.
- Train faculty and instructional staff on new instructional techniques and programs.
- Define program objectives and oversee program duties.
- Supervise day‑to‑day activities of instructional support staff as needed.
- Assess learner performance, prepare reports, and recommend instructional improvements.
- Administer budget and personnel for instructional grants and programs.
- Provide classroom, online, and laboratory instruction, including grading.
- Master’s degree with a specialty in English education, curriculum and instruction, or a related field.
- At least three years of English classroom experience.
- At least one year of higher‑education teaching experience.
- English education licensure or eligibility (preferred).
- Experience with inclusive and culturally responsive teaching in urban settings.
- Experience in undergraduate/graduate teacher education focused on racial equity.
- Proficiency with online course delivery.
- Record of scholarly engagement.
- Ph.D. in English Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Urban Education, Language and Literacy, or closely related field (preferred).
$50,000–$60,000 per year (academic basis).
