Messmer High School is a 9‑12 grade Catholic high school that serves students and families on the northside of Milwaukee. Messmer High School currently enrolls over 1100 students. 80% of our students attend college. African American students comprise 85% of the student body and over 80% of students qualify for free/reduced meals. Regardless of student background and external factors, MHS maintains high expectations for students.
PositionDescription
The Science Teacher will be motivated to make a positive impact on high school students while keeping a focus on academic success and helping students achieve their fullest potential. The Science Teacher will engage positively and professionally with the high school team to create a positive culture and ensure student success.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties- Demonstrate a clear commitment to adult and adolescent development and learning, and collaboration with a growth mindset in professional practice.
- Plan, prepare, and facilitate instruction for the prescribed curriculum for the subject area(s) taught. Manage the learning process, evaluate student performance, maintain records, and plan lessons.
- Understand and apply strategies (e.g., differentiation and extension) and best practices (e.g., models, think‑aloud, mini‑lessons, multiple drafts, reflection, effective group work) to ensure student success.
- Implement, execute, and measure academic success at the classroom level. Use data from formative and summative assessments to discuss and inform instruction.
- Assist with the ongoing review and improvement of processes and procedures related to the school. Follow established teaching protocols and programs to ensure consistency among classes.
- Work cooperatively and interact positively with students, parents, staff and community. Oversee classroom discipline and, when necessary, elevate issues to appropriate personnel.
- Be highly present and available to all students, faculty and parents.
- Participate in and attend all faculty meetings and professional development sessions.
- Maintain open and consistent communication about student progress, concert activities, and achievements with students, families, and the school community.
- Provide leadership in ensuring a positive school culture for adults and students.
- Use and integrate technology in classroom and project instruction.
- Proactively and effectively communicate with all school personnel, families, and colleagues in a timely manner.
- Participate in the school‑wide teacher coaching program; receive feedback and actively work to continuously improve teaching practice and overall performance.

- Education Requirements:
Bachelor of Arts/Science from a four‑year college or university—preferably with coursework in physics, science, engineering, and/or computer science (Master’s degree a plus). - Required Certifications/Licenses:
Licensed educator or working toward licensure. - Experience:
1‑2 years of experience in education, preferably in an urban city classroom and demonstrating significant gains. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering certification is preferred.
