Overview
Marquette University invites applications for the Arnold L. Mitchem Dissertation Fellowship Program. The fellowship provides one year of support for doctoral candidates who are in the writing stage of their dissertation and enrolled in U.S. universities. Fellows receive a salary stipend, fringe benefits, and a moving/travel stipend for the 2026-27 academic year.
Responsibilities- Be in residence at Marquette University for the 2026-27 academic year (August 31, 2026 – May 14, 2027).
- Teach one course in their area of specialization.
- Interact with faculty and undergraduate students and give a public presentation.
- Devote primary energies to the completion and defense of their dissertations.
- Be mentored by a senior faculty mentor in their discipline, appointed by the fellow’s department chair and collegiate dean in consultation with the Vice President of Belonging and Student Affairs.
- Masters degree preferred or substantial progress toward the terminal degree.
- Eligible to apply who have not earned a doctoral degree at any time or in any field, have completed all other requirements for the Ph.D., and are at the writing stage of their dissertation.

Anthropology, Communication Studies, Computer Science, Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education, Criminology and Law Studies, Educational Policy and Leadership, English, History, International Affairs, Journalism, Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, Media Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Social Welfare and Justice, Sociology, or Theology and Religion. - Interest in research aligned with the university’s Jesuit mission on topics in African American, Latinx, First Nations/Native American Studies, or Race and Ethnic Studies.
