Key Responsibilities- Assist in defining the objectives of the Japanese Program and play a major role in carrying out program duties.
- Develop teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and the program’s strategy.
- Supervise the day‑to‑day activities of instructional support employees as needed.
- Assess learner performance and prepare reports recommending instructional improvements.
- Provide classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction, including grading.
- Assist in developing techniques and/or model programs for instructional goals, and identify ways new techniques could assist the program.
- Teach all levels of Japanese language courses.
- Develop and teach upper‑division elective courses in Japanese.
- Participate in organizing and promoting program events.
- Contribute to program development and community outreach.
- MA in Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or a related field.
- Two or more years of teaching experience at the post‑secondary level, or at least four years teaching at the primary, intermediate or secondary levels.
- Strong commitment to teaching excellence and student engagement.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse academic community.
- Minimum Superior (ACTFL) or C2 (CEFR) level proficiency in all Japanese language skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing.
- Experience organizing events.
- Experience using the course management system Canvas.
- Ability to teach either Chinese or Korean.
