Position: Spanish GED/HSED Instructor (LTE)

The Spanish GED/HSED Instructor is a Limited Term Employee (LTE) who conducts new student enrollment and provides individualized GED/HSED instruction in Spanish, as well as maintaining record-keeping. They also schedule GED/HSED Orientation and GED testing at Madison College.

Supervisor: Director of Omega School of Literacy Network

Employee Status: Limited Term Employee Part-Time; potential for re-hire in subsequent semesters depending on organizational need

Hours: 12 hours/week.

Schedule Options:

  • Option 1 (most ideal for Omega’s needs): 10:00-2:00 MTWR
  • Option 2:
    Work two 6-hour shifts each week during Omega’s open hours (MTWR 9:00
    -7:00). Set your schedule with your supervisor at start of the semester and maintain the same schedule week-to-week.

Pay: $21/hour plus additional $1/hour bilingual differential

Employment Period: Monday, July 27, 2026 to Thursday, December 17, 2026.

Responsibilities

1. GED/HSED Instruction
35%

  • Provide skill-appropriate 1:1 GED/HSED instruction– including in Literacy Network’s new 5.09 competency-based GED/HSED curricula –to students using a variety of methods (testing, reviewing wrong answers, project completion, and/or skill building activities) and use of GED/HSED materials.
  • Coach GED students on test-taking strategies.
  • Based on assessment and observation, choose and use classroom materials for GED students that are appropriate to students’ abilities and interest.
  • Follow assigned curricula for 5.09 HSED students; support them in choosing among built-in assignment options for individualization; instruct 1:1 as needed.

2. GED/HSED Student Intake
20%

  • Conduct new student enrollments, administer required assessments (Aztec and/or TABE)
  • Work with the student to complete Dane County GED Demographic forms and Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Pre-Application to GED/HSED forms.
  • Provide GED Orientation using materials and processes from Madison College.
  • Help the student complete their employability requirements.
  • Share information about the GED/HSED process with the student as needed; have student sign to confirm they have received information about the different ways to get a GED/HSED in Wisconsin.
  • Create student folders; file registration & assessment forms and other records to complete checklist.

3. Record-Keeping, Tracking, and Reporting
20%

  • Maintain accurate daily record keeping including student attendance and progress notes in their folders.
  • Maintain accurate records in Literacy Network’s Apricot database.
  • Monitor and record student GED testing progress.
  • Monitor and record student 5.09 HSED competency completion progress.

4. Student Persistence Support
20%

  • Maintain on-going contact with students to encourage regular attendance.
  • Recommend taking official GED test at Madison College Goodman South Campus when a student is ready.
  • Make phone calls and conduct other forms of outreach to follow-up on students who do not maintain regular attendance or make progress.

5. General Office Duties 5%

  • Support colleagues in answering the Omega School of Literacy Network door and phones and assisting students as needed.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities as applicable and as schedule permits.
  • Attend meetings as requested by the Director of Omega School of Literacy Network.
  • Act as a representative of Literacy Network in the community, on behalf of our student population and in service to community members seeking information on our programs and your areas of expertise.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (completed or ongoing) or certificate in Education, Bilingual Education, reading instruction, and/or significant field or work experience in middle, high school, and/or adult education, workforce development, or adult literacy
