Future Success Program, Upward Bound, & Upward Bound Math and Science

Program Description

Center for Pre-College Programs are federally, and state funded college-prep programs for high school students who are potential first-generation college students and/or from low-income families and/or have an academic need and/or have free/ reduced lunch. The program's goal is to develop in participants the skills and motivation needed for success in post-secondary education. During the academic year, the programs serve a total of 212 high school students from target schools in Milwaukee.

During the summer, students in grades 9-12participatein a summer program. The summer program includes classes, electives, tutoring, field trips, and programming. During the summer program, students willhaveclasses in person on campus.

Responsibilities/Duties

The primary objective of the TA/Tutor position is to support student learning and academic success during the summer program. This position works closely with instructors and program staff to reinforce classroom instruction, provide academic support, and help students build study skills and confidence in core subject areas. Since students are minors, staff members must maintain a supportive, professional, and engaging learning environment at all times.

Tutors are expected to actively assist students during instructional time, support tutoring sessions, and provide encouragement and academic guidance to help students stay on track toward college readiness. Typical TA schedule is Monday – Thursday 7:30am to 1:00 pm and occasional Fridays as needed for field trips.

  • Assist instructors during academic classes by supporting instruction, monitoring student engagement, and helping students understand course material.
  • Provide small-group and individual tutoring in subject areas such as mathematics, science, reading, or writing.
  • Support structured tutoring and study hours by assisting students with completing assignments and reviewing concepts.
  • Encourage positive study habits, time management, and academic confidence among participants.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, organization of materials, and basic administrative tasks related to instruction.
  • Help monitor student behavior during instructional and tutoring sessions to maintain a respectful learning environment.
  • Collaborate with instructors and program staff to identify students who may need additional academic support.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions related to the summer program.
  • Assist with supervision of students during certain program activities, as assigned.
  • Support program events and activities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by program staff.
Qualifications
  • Rising Sophomore standing or above; a cumulative GPA 2.5 or higher.
  • Prefer experience working with underrepresented or educationally disadvantaged youth.
  • Currently enrolled as a college student.
  • College transcripts are required.

Hourly rate is $14.00/hr up to 30 hours a week.

Start and End Date

July 1st– July 30th, 2026

Final Candidates Are Subject to the Following Requirements
  • Must complete a Criminal Background Check prior to their first day of employment.
  • Must successfully complete all required training by June
    30th.
  • This includes the mandatory Position of Trust Working with Minors on Campus training by June
    30th.
  • Must be available to travel and chaperone the field trips.
