Overview

Provide cross‑functional counseling and advice on enrollment and student financial issues within the Marquette Central Student Services unit. Advise a diverse population of current and prospective students, families, and stakeholders about registration, academic records, financial aid, student employment, and student accounts.

Responsibilities
  • Counseling and Advising: Investigate, problem‑solve, and resolve questions and issues from prospective and current students, parents, faculty, third parties, and the public. Maintain focus on academic and financial wellness, student retention, and graduation rates. Provide in‑depth financial aid information, assist with aid application process (FAFSA), explain loan terms and conditions, professional judgement, scholarship renewal, disbursement policies, satisfactory academic progress, student employment, and study away policies.

    Counsel students/families on payment rights, billing statements, payment options, and timelines.
  • Registration and Account Management: Assist students with registration logistics, navigating Check Marq, forms, transcript orders, and academic policies. Adjust financial aid offers per university policies. Adhere to federal, state, and university regulations and FERPA. Assist with campus job applications and paperwork, refer to campus resources, and communicate with institutional stakeholders. Exercise discretion on waiving late fees, removing registration holds, etc.
  • Technology and Data Processing: Use multiple student‑serving platforms and software. Accurately review account information, document interactions, troubleshoot billing/academic record/registration concerns. Review documents for accuracy, process account history requests, enrollment verifications, official transcripts. Assist with monthly payment plan.
  • Presentations, Outreach, and Training: Deliver financial aid presentations to prospective students and families. Provide presentations at university‑sponsored events such as orientation. Perform proactive student outreach. Participate in ongoing training, serve as trainer and trainee, meet knowledge requirements, and review policies and websites.
  • Liaison Functions: Act as liaison between students, parents, and university offices. Advocate on behalf of students, serve on internal and external committees.
  • Required Knowledge,

    Skills and Abilities
    • Bachelor's degree
    • Minimum 1 year of customer service experience
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills and negotiation skills
    • Ability to respond to customers quickly, thoughtfully, and courteously
    • Appreciation of and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles
    • Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
    • Proven ability to work effectively as a team member
    • Ability to analyze and interpret data and make independent decisions
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information
    • Flexibility to work flexible hours and extra hours during recruitment/retention events
