Director, Certificate in Financial Planning

Milwaukee, WI

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach a 3‑course load (9 credit hours) for the fall and spring semesters, including at least 3 credit hours in the financial planning certificate.
  • Serve as Director of the Certificate in Financial Planning, maintaining the CFP board–registered status of the program.
  • Recruit and place students in the certificate program.
  • Collaborate with a board of advisors and manage program resources and budget.
  • Oversee experiential learning projects and other matters related to the certificate.
  • Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study.
  • Contribute to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work, including publications and presentations.
  • Develop and design curriculum and instructional material relevant to courses of instruction.
  • Collaborate with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline.
  • May supervise student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction.
  • Facilitate classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction, including assessment of student performance.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the unit.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in business or a related discipline from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Meet the qualifications to be director of a CFP Board‑registered program, which include being a CFP professional, holding a graduate degree in financial planning or a related discipline, or holding a graduate degree related to education or adult education, or being the head of a continuing/professional education department of a college or university, or meeting one of the eligibility requirements for Accelerated Path.
  • Accelerated Path to CFP certification requires a CFA charter holder (preferred), CPA, CHFC, CLU, licensed attorney, doctor of business administration, PhD in financial planning (preferred), finance, business administration, or economics, or CFP certification from outside the US (FPSB affiliate).
  • Having or being eligible to obtain CFP or CFA certification is encouraged.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Practical experience in the field of financial planning or investments.
  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as evidenced in teaching evaluations.
