Position: Instructor, English (Part-Time)

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of the General Education Pathway, faculty will develop and teach concepts and strategies for a variety of courses. Teaching will be required in‑person at MATC campuses, business, community, other sites, and/or online during the day, evening, and/or weekend. Related duties include participation in department and advisory meetings, department and college functions, course and curriculum development in both traditional and non‑traditional formats.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching‑related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow‑up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education al Requirements

Master’s degree or higher in English.

OR Master’s degree or higher in a related discipline (e.g., communications, comparative literature, language arts, writing, journalism, speech, reading, theater arts, or liberal studies) with at least 18 graduate‑level coursework credits in English. A concentration in reading and writing is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous post‑secondary teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching and/or developing curriculum in a variety of classroom environments including in‑person and online.
  • Experience teaching composition and/or literature.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Arabic.

  • Online Information Management Systems – Experience with Serf‑Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters.
  • Blackboard Ultra – Experience with Blackboard or other web‑based course‑management systems.
  • Technology‑based Instruction – Experience with technology‑based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology.
  • Emerging Technologies – Experience with emerging technologies (e.g., social networking applications).
Start Date

Available to start for the fall semester (approximately August 2026). All work must be conducted in the state of Wisconsin.

Hours

This is a part‑time faculty pool position. Assignments are temporary, not guaranteed, can vary in hours/days, and will depend entirely on course availability and department needs each semester.

Salary

The starting hourly wage for all part‑time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part‑time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction (equivalent to $70 per hour). This hourly wage is non‑negotiable.
