ELA & Social Studies Teacher - St. John Paul II Catholic School, Milwaukee, WI
The ELA & Social Studies Teacher at Saint John Paul II Catholic School fosters the intellectual, spiritual, social, and emotional growth of students in keeping with the Catholic mission of the school. This role involves designing, delivering, and evaluating instruction in both English Language Arts and Social Studies, integrating faith-based perspectives, and promoting a culture of excellence and reverence.
Responsibilities- Instructional Duties
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards‑aligned lessons in English Language Arts (reading, writing, grammar, speaking, listening) and Social Studies (history, geography, civics, culture).
- Differentiating instruction to address varied learner needs, including remediation and enrichment.
- Use diverse instructional strategies, including technology and project‑based learning.
- Design formative and summative assessments; track and analyze student progress.
- Provide timely, meaningful feedback to students and families.
- Foster critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and problem solving.
- Faith & Community Integration
- Model and promote the Catholic identity and mission of the school.
- Integrate Catholic values, Scripture, and Church tradition into classroom instruction and culture.
- Participate in school liturgies, prayer services, retreats, and other faith formation activities.
- Cultivate a classroom climate of respect, responsibility, kindness, and reverence.
- Professional Duties
- Maintain discipline and classroom management consistent with Gospel values.
- Establish open, respectful communication with parents/guardians.
- Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and administration for curricular coherence and student support.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school events.
- Keep accurate records of student grades, attendance, work, and evaluations.
- Uphold school policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (or working towards a teaching degree).
- Valid teaching license/certification per state or diocesan requirements or working towards license.
- Experience teaching ELA and/or Social Studies preferred.
- Demonstrated classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Actively practicing Catholic in good standing (preferred).
- Passion for Catholic education and commitment to fostering students’ spiritual growth.
- Full‑time, ten‑month position.
- Classroom‑based with regular engagement in religious life of the school.
- Occasional evening or weekend commitments (e.g., parent meetings, school events).
- Participation in retreats, faith formation, and community‑building events.
