Marquette University seeks a Project Coordinator to support the implementation of MKE Roots curriculum in Milwaukee County classrooms. The Coordinator will collaborate with teachers, community partners, and administrators to improve history and civics education through curriculum development, pilot programming, professional development, instructional coaching, and research & evaluation.
ResponsibilitiesBuild teaching materials (unit plans, lesson plans, journey boxes, field experiences, and inquiry activities) to accompany place‑based digital pins in the MKE Roots Ecosystem; provide feedback on materials written by interns and graduate assistants; collaborate with community partners on curriculum development.
Facilitate weekly pilot programming at K12 partner schools; mentor and collaborate with additional facilitators; design pilot programming and document it through curriculum materials; seek opportunities to develop future pilot programming.
Co‑plan MKE Roots professional development offerings, including the weeklong Summer Seminar, A250 Seminar Series, and Community of Practice meetings; co‑facilitate monthly Community of Practice meetings for the MKE Roots Educators Network.
Conduct classroom observations of MKE Roots teachers and lead them through the instructional coaching cycle; provide classroom‑level support for the Educators Network (planning field experiences, accessing curriculum resources, problem‑solving classroom dilemmas); model and co‑facilitate MKE Roots lessons as requested by teachers.
Conduct case study observations of MKE Roots classrooms; analyze students’ pre‑ and post‑programming assessments; collaborate with the Research and Evaluation team to code and interpret qualitative and quantitative data.
Coordinate programming logistics between MKE Roots and school districts; maintain communication and deepen relationships with community partners; attend weekly team meetings.
Supervise student employees, including hiring, training, disciplinary actions, and termination of assignments.
- Bachelor’s degree in history, political science, education, communications, sociology, or a related field.
- Minimum one year of relevant experience.
- Professional experience in K12 classrooms and serving urban youth.
- Familiarity with Wisconsin Model Academic Standards, especially in social studies and civics.
- Group facilitation experience, particularly facilitating critical conversations in education.
- Experience developing curriculum, teaching materials, programming, or enrichment opportunities for K12 students.
- Excellent written communication skills and empathetic interpersonal communication.
- Master’s degree in history, political science, education, communications, sociology, or a related field.
- Supervisory experience.
- Fluency in Spanish.
- Three or more years teaching K12 social studies, English, history, writing, community service, or civics.
- Experience conducting instructional coaching or peer‑to‑peer teaching feedback.
- Experience facilitating rigorous and relevant civic education.
- Project management experience.
- Research knowledge in critical educational research, especially in K12 classrooms.
- Pedagogical knowledge of inquiry methods, Socratic seminars, and document‑based work (including primary grades).
- Knowledge of instructional coaching frameworks and effective professional development models.
